I will write the most honest and unbiased review about Garden City College. This review is based purely from my personal experience. So where do I begin?
Lets start with the Pros:
The college has beautiful infrastructure. The campus is very clean and beautiful. It has an international feel to it.
There is a great scope for students to develop in dance, singing, fashion shows, organizing programs and all sorts of extracurricular activities. You get to interact with international students mostly from SAARC countries, Africans and Arabs.
The computer labs and hostels have high speed internet. The hostels are clean and hygienic as cleaning staff come everyday. Good restaurants within the campus offering worldwide cuisine. (Tokyo Cafe)
Now the Cons:
The standard of teaching is very poor. The lecturers are not good. From what I hear, they are also underpaid. Maybe this is why the college is having a tough time attracting talented professors. The lecturers know only the book they are teaching, if you ask them anything out of syllabus, although related to the topic, they wont be able to answer you.
There is not much scope to further your personal growth. The syllabus is that of BU. It is highly outdated.
The management may increase the fees in the middle of the term and you cannot say anything about it.
If you are staying in Trinity Home(Senior boys hostel), you will have to pay your own electricity bills, order food from outside as no food is provided in the hostel. If you want college food, then you will have to go to the campus (5 minute walk) and eat food in the mess there.
Everything is about increasing the popularity of the college. There is one or the other curricular activities every week. Many of the computers, ACs , Laboratory equipments are dysfunctional. Repeated requests to repair them are ignored. If you have any personal problems, you cannot count on the management to help you.
Note if you are taking admission in this college:
- The first year boys hostel, Jubilee Home is approximately 1km from the college. There is a bus, but on the days the bus is not available, you will have to walk.
To go out, you need gate pass. If you go out, you are supposed to be back in the hostel by 7pm
- The taste of the food in hostels is very bad. It is also very plain and simple. The only consolation is that it is prepared under hygienic conditions. Nevertheless, most students prefer to eat from dhabas outside.
Jubilee home does NOT have wifi as of August 2013. For the last few years students have been promised wifi, but the promise remains to be fulfilled.
- Mobile phones are allowed in the hostels and campus.
