I did my BE from a college in Ratnagiri and stayed in hostels for four years and this place turned out to be our favourite get away from studies. Ganpatiphule is located on the western coast of Maharastra in the konkan region. As the name suggests this place is home to a temple of lord Ganesha and is a renowned pilgrimage center in India. Apart from the temple, this place can also boast to be having one of the most beautiful and cleanest beaches in India. At least, it is one the most peaceful and cleanest beach where I have been. If you are planning to visit this place for having fun on the beach, I would suggest that you do not do so on days of ''Sankashtis''; (Sankashti is an auspicious day as per the Hindu calendar) as loads of crowds are drawn towards this pilgrimage center.
The nearest railway station is Ratnagiri. You can hire a car from Ratnagiri to this place. State Transport (ST) buses are also available but they are not at all frequent and give a very foul smell. Any konkan railway train will get you to Ratnagiri, you can get these trains from Mumbai's CST railway station or from Goa. The railway fares are reasonable, around 181 Rs from Mumbai to Ratnagiri in a sleeper coach. The best time to go there is between November to February because of favourable temperatures and no rain. Also, if you choose to travel by a train during day time, you will get to enjoy a scenic journey through the plateaus of Konkan. You can enjoy this place with your friends as well as with your family. You will have lots of options to stay here at reasonable rates if you are planning a 2-3 day visit. If you ask me, one visit to this place can make you go back there again and again. I also suggest you to be a bit careful during high tides.
