This is an absolutely WOW place....scenic beauty, long tree lined
roads, good treks and a beautiful view of the mountains...
I had been there with friends from Calcutta in 98....took a night train from Howrah to Siliguri
and then hired a jeep to go upto Gangtok (4 hour drive)
stayed there for about 4 days and had a great time...
We went in February - it was pretty good weather - rather cold but very bearable
There are lots of places to visit too.Rumtek monastry really makes you wonder whether this is how Tibet feels, and then there is the
Tchangu Lake above the snow line (which is mostly frozen and very sacred) - lots of snow to slide down and play around with.
What I liked about the trip was that we were a huge group - so we had loads of fun....
really tripped out....drank a lot , ate momos at really cheap places, lost our way..climed upto places we couldnt get down...
What I didnt like (at that time ) was that we ran out of money and had to eat bread on the last day !!!
(but I guess I can feel nostalgic about it)
Will go back there very soon!!!
