It's difficult to trace the waves soaked in by the sands of time....

Was it the tender hands of a 6-year old Asheem on the Tabla...or was it the adventurous strums of collegiate Susmit seeking his own style of playing the Guitar? Or was it the hands of time itself that brought the two together to make music in concerts, with no more than an accoustic guitar and a percussion ensemble?

Whatever that might have been , the wind of audience applause pushed their dream boat into mid-sea and their experimentation with other musicians conjured up images of the ocean beyond. Finally in 1990 Indian Ocean was born!

The above is taken from the leaflet enclosed in the most listened to cd from my collection, since I thought nothing could better explain the birth of this brilliant Music Group.

The Cd in question by the way is Indian Oceans Kandisa, a clearly divine compilation!

Yes, Indian Ocean is about Fusion Rock , and for readers of this review to who I seem like someone babbling in Martian-tongue.... i'm actually raving about the group who are behind the Music of the film Black Friday (Anurag Kashyap) ,that never released. Surely u've heard the track Bandeh ? ....yes...now ur on my wavelength!! :-)

Their best album by far I think is Kandisa which has a track for every mood! (accurately 7!)

Here's to describe a few....

Ma Rewa is based on a Traditional Hymn about the Narmada River. It begins with the Guitar that slowly blends with a catchy Tabla which is but an intro to Asheem Chakravarty's gripping vocals. It slowly meanders into an impressive bit of Percussion.

Kaun is a personal favourite that makes the listener reach within himself and find happiness. Thats what its meant to do and that is the exact effect it had on me! For some people I think 3-4 listens are needed, and it'll grow on them!

It starts slowly with a guitar , and then come the gripping vocals again! It will remind you of a totally melancholy Filmi song but ofcourse is much much superior as far as Lyrics, Instruments and plain Creativity is concerned. (Actually i'm sorry to have given such a poor Datum-line!! ;-) )

Kandisa means 'praise' and is built on a Syrian Catholic Hymn. It has deep roots growing back to Jesus Christ's time. It is an intelligent blend of the Guitar,Tabla and the Drums and though it is meant to be inherently spiritual , it somehow has a charm that Lifts one's spirits! Great for a Rainy day!! I think Everyone should give this one atleast a listen,so I feel my Review has touched some hearts!! ;-)

There are four other tracks in this album, each one in itself a piece of art!

What is MOST appealing about this band is that they sound as original and complete LIVE as in their album...! Thats not what u get from amy artists!

And to know what I mean..for those Lucky ones who will be at the Mood Indigo in Mumbai this week...they're playing there on Monday 26th as i've heard and hope to be correct, and I implore u to go there and listen to them! (i NEVER implore...so this must mean A LOT!!!! he he!)

And Donot download their stuff of the Web or burn CDS..!!! I will hunt u down and Shoot you! These guys Deserve Everything they've got and are Entitled to!

I hope I’ve brought out their very best and raked in a few novice listeners!
