“What will you feed your husband when you get married?” mother dearest.

“Why can’t you say, some day you might be alone and you can’t eat outside every single day? The mission of my life isn’t feeding a male of the species the rest of my life!!” Yours Truly in TRULY a rebellious mode!

At the airport during my bidaai my mom told my husband that her daughter can’t cook to save her life. My husband though laughing at it as a joke, dil hi dil mein ro raha tha! Mayunk is someone who enjoys his food the way Tansen must have enjoyed music or the way Tendulkar loves cricket or the way… Ok! You get my point, right? He had made THE supreme sacrifice to get into this love shaadi bandhan (the fact that his mother is an AWESOME cook didn’t help much!).

Amazingly, turns out that I am not really bad cook… above average one can say. The years of helping my mom in the kitchen was paying now. It’s revealing how much you have picked up subconsciously without ever actually doing the whole works of it. Whatever the new age desi ladki might say, the way to a man’s heart is STILL through his tummy (Mayunk tells me I am beautiful every time I make super dal).

I have already written a review on Ready to Eat foods with recipes aptly called Remix your food because these are the things that give that zany twist to your regular khaana. And like any remix song, they are really good or fail miserably! I remember this one time when I bought a Chinese barbecue sauce called Woh-Hup Hoisin Sauce (the name should have put me off, I guess!) and used it in my noodles and the taste was just not for my palette. We threw the noodles and the sauce the same evening after blowing 200bucks on that big fat bottle (I did save the bottle though! Holds my achaar now!).

Over a period of time of my experiments with food (they are as important to me as truth was for Gandhi), I have found out that one brand has stood for quality and taste and has added its flavour to many a meals I have cooked! The brand is called FUN FOODS being retailed through major food malls like Food World, Fab Mall and Nilgiri’s in Bangalore.

Their range includes the creamy and yummy mayonnaise, though I prefer their garlic mayo taste better and added to your potato, tomato or cabbage gives it really nice taste. (Refer to my earlier review for recipes.)

The chilly garlic paste which is literally a red chilly and garlic paste (bit close to the Maharashtrian Thecha) ups the spice factor even in your regular subzi. Be careful with the quantity though! You want only your mouth to water, not your nose and eyes.

The cheese and chilly cheese sandwich spread makes as the name suggests a cool sandwich, but also can be used as a dip or a topping, giving just that right amount of cheesy flavour.

They also have these chocolate, butterscotch and strawberry sauces which are simply fantabulous! Use them as obvious topping on your ice cream to make sinful sundaes at home! Just get ice cream in nay flavour, add crushed Marie or Glucose biscuit to it and top it with any of the sauce which suits the ice cream! Or if you are as crazy as I am, you can just coat your Marie biscuit with their butterscotch sauce and bite into it. It will drip and then you get to lick it off too! Or add a dash of chocolate sauce to your coffee and you have Macchiato at home.

There are more expensive brands for each of these products, but after using most of those too, I think that Fun Foods gives you a better value for money and same or better richness in taste that makes you go back for more.

They are priced at anywhere between 65 – 100bucks for their 200gm products.

Next time you want to have food that makes you happy (and you really don’t care whether its fattening or not!) go on… have some FUN!
