Semis provide flexibility !!

Recently to reach to our decision of buying a washing machine, I spent lot of time on mouth shut. Needless to say lots of reviews in this section were quite helpful.  And now, after purchasing the machine, I am writing this to share my feedback as well.

We are a family of 2, self and wife; both of us are working with timings of 8 to 8. Hence, weekends are the only days when we have time for washing.  Budget being no constraint, we decided to explore in the range of 20K.

My wife was always in favor of getting an automatic washing machine keeping the convenience in mind.  I too was of the similar opinion. Lot of friends, colleagues also suggested in favor of an auto looking at our criteria of less time required and more convenience. Everything was in favor of an Auto.

But….

Visits to a couple of the outlets and some logical thinking helped us to reach to a decision of finally buying a semi-automatic for 6.5 K.

Why?

My reasons:

Auto has an average cycle of 1.25 hrs(45 mins for most delicate to 2 hrs for heavy).  All the household clothes can never be washed in one cycle.  You will have office clothes; under garments; delicate women wear; and house/kitchen cleaning clothes and few colorful ones which will make white clothes colorfulJ.  All these categories have to be washed separately. Now, having an auto, just imagine the number of cycles you will require to wash all the clothes. And for each of the cycle you need refilling the water and detergent even though you don’t need the fresh water for clothes used for house hold cleaning – leading to extra water and detergent consumption. Yes you get breaks of 1 hr with every cycle and total washing time is 4 hrs.

In a semi, which now a days have soaking feature also, you can wash and dry simultaneously. It provides you so much flexibility. You wash and shift to drier and load the machine with another set of clothes. Here you get smaller breaks of 15-20 mins but the total washing time is just 2 hours and this is the real experience of mine during the last weekend.

This is what I call convenience and flexibility. I would have spent 2 extra hours had I bought an auto at double the price. Hence - my vote is for a semi which also saved me more than 10K.
