Its a compelling insight into the life , ideals and principles of the great Mahatma. A detailed look into Gandhi's philosophy of non violence, written in a gripping tale of freedom and the bloodshed that followed it. With this as the backdrop, the author very skilfully, puts forward the power of philosophy in which Gandhi believed-- the power of Non Violence.
It is very sad that our generation, the youth of the country, the future leaders of this nation, hardly have any knowledge about Gandhi's ideals, while a foreigner, can write in so much detail about Gandhi, a foreigner realises and respects its value. This is a book that every person should read.
The story revolves around the partition, when the entire country was strife torn, with people killing each other, using religion as the basis for destroying the sole platform which had been the basis of the freedom struggle-Unity.
I remember an incident in which the book draws comparison between the western and the eastern fronts during partition.
Riots had started on both fronts, and an entire Army of peace keeping forces was sent to the western front. And they sent another Army on the eastern front--
Mahatma Gandhi.
Even After days of relentless actions, the army could not bring peace on the western front. And on the eastern front, this frail man with just a loin cloth on , was responsible for saving thousands of lives.
Such was the power of Non Violence, such was the belief he had on them, and this was the true path he was trying to make every one understand, which unfortunatley we have lost somewhere down the line.
The book effectively conveys how Gandhi was a true socialist, living among the poor, helping them, feeding them. According to him, the poor people were the main fabric of this nation , and until and unless we improve their condition ,we will hardly be able to achieve much.
A must read true story.
