FREAK ON. Review on Freaky Chakra

So you thought its just another movie in line of Ek Chhoti Si Love Story and Leela. Well, quite right to some extent. But its neither as cheap as the former nor so serious as the latter. Just about balanced in that sense. Its a story about how Mrs. Thomas (Deepti Naval), a 40 plus sad and frustrated singleton, who keeps her doors locked, and screams at everyone who comes across right from the neighborhood kids to the watchman, suddenly transforms into a pleasant loving lady, after she finds love and sex in her life, through a lively 19 yr. old boy who comes to live with her as a PG. Its a two part story dealing with loneliness and relationship, quite theatrically directed by VK Prakash ,with a narrator (Ranveer Shouri) interrupting scenes every now and then. Although the first half of the movie dealing with frustration of loneliness, has been beautifully crafted and directed, the director falters in the second half while dealing with an issue (relationship between an old woman and young boy) of such gravity. The development of love between Deepti Naval and Sunil Rao which culminates in bed is so fast that it makes the whole plot unconvincing and one feels as if the director was in a hurry to reach the end. Like its predecessors even this movie fails to bring up the nuances and ups and downs of such a relationship. As far as performances are concerned Deepti naval scores above the rest. Sunil Rao as the cute young boy does show promise. All in all, though the movie falls short of expectations, its still much better than any regular Bollywood potboiler
