For those of you who don't know what BMS is, it stands for Bachelors in Management Studies which is a three year integrated graduation course by the Mumbai University.
I'm currently doing my third which is the last year and doing it from Bhavans Somani College, Chowpatty.
After I passed my SSC, I was clueless about colleges and courses in the city. I joined St. Andrews College, Bandra and completed my junior college in Arts. Whenever people asked me what I am studying and I said Arts, they scorned at me by saying Arts is for Farts. I was so embarrassed and wanted to leave college.
Just in time the forms for the CCEE (that is the entrance exams for BMS) were issued. I jumped at the opportunity but later got disinterested. Just for the heck of it, I answered the entrance exam. I was so dissillusioned by the fact that there were 20,000 people who gave this exam most of them being from commerce or science. 50% was the cut off score. Maths was a must and I'm pathethic at it. (the other subjects are visual ability, verbal ability and logic). Yet I kept my fingers crossed.
When the results were out, I cleared with a score of 68% and a rank at 480. After that there was no turning back. Since the admissions were centralised at that time (now they are decentralised), we had to accept wherever the University placed us based on our score. I got the last seat in the womens catagory and got into Bhavans College. And till today I thank GOD for it.
The course contains everything you would want to know but couldnt get it all in one package. It is spread over 6 semesters and contains everything from Human Skills to Managerial Economics to Quantitative Methods for Business to Accounts to Financial Management to Market Research to Special Studies in Marketing or Finance to Entrepreneurship to Econometrics to International Marketing to International Finance to Computers Hardware and Programming. The course contains about 40 subjects over 3 years. Its simply AMAZING !!!! Take my word for it.
Each subject if 100 marks where 60 marks is wriiten and 40 marks comprises of class attendence, class participation, class tests, projects and presentations. In the last year, instead of one subject we have a 100 marks project based on any topic of your choice but is conducted by University examiners. And all this for a nominal fee of Rs. 30,000 for 3 years.
And friends, this course has given me oodles of confidence. I remember what a shy and timid girl I was when I was in school and now I want to participate at all the inter collegiate festivals be it in creativity or personality or business quizzes or elocution. THANKS BE TO BMS !!!!
I have even worked in a Call Centre that doesn't employ under grads but accepted me without even asking for any College marksheet or proof !!!
