I bought Ikon 1.3 in 2000 in about 5.5 lacs. It was my first own car. It had extremely good looks (as compared to cars at that time) and unbelievable pickup for a 58BHP car. It use to touch 150-160 on highways just like that. I was the most happiest person in driving that car. I even had 2 of my other friends buy the same car.The trouble started after a year and a half.
Every summer the AC will break down. It will require gas refilling (I am driving Toyota Corolla for 4 years now, never even got its AC touched once - or for that matter any part in the car). My side window got broke once. Not available outside - buy from showroom, cost is 3000 (Asahi) while for same side windows for Honda city was 1200 from Asahi in open market. Each service will take away 10, 000 to 12, 000. Car use to get over-raced automatically. They couldn't fix the problem for 2 years.
I must have spent about Rs 30000 on that problem, but never fixed. In 3 years, 50, 000 KMS, the engine broke down. Car wheels would never get aligned due to suspension issue. Countless problems. I was the most relieved person when I sold that car after 4 years of driving at just Rs. 60, 000 (only 55, 000 KMS on it). Not even a single Ikon part is available in open market. The good thing is that my friends faced exactly same problems after same amount of time. It's not that I was unlucky, it's just that Ikon sucks. I have never met a single person who is happy with Ikon after driving it for more than 3 years.I think Ford has the policy that sell cheap but make money in service/repairs. NEVER EVER BUY A FORD - at least an Ikon. Vinay
