After deliberating on Nissan Micra, Figo, Polo and Ritz & Swift diesel, I decided to go for the Figo. Ritz did not win the race as far as looks were concerned; Micra & Polo for the reason that I wasn't comfortable with the dealership presence and after-sales service ability of VW & Nissan in India. And Swift (VDi / ZDi) - the waiting period was way too longer than my tolerance levels to wait for a car at least:-).

Here is the summary of my month old affair with the new machine - the Figo Diesel(Titanium):

Dealer: Mody Ford, Begumpet (Secunderabad). My experience -

  • High customer centricity

  • Knowledgeable Sales Rep and Sales Manager

  • Punctual in keeping time commitments

Vehicle Synopsis: It has just been about a month having taken the delivery. Have done 2000 kms so far. Here is how the experience has been:

  • Very good leg room in front and rear. The dashboard does not fight with the knee even for a 6ft tall guy.

  • Enough shoulder space for the driver and sufficient head room(lower than Swift / Ritz).

  • Large comfortable seats.

  • Best in class boot space.

  • Bluetooth stereo is of great quality and convenience. 4 speakers sufficient for most music buffs unless if you are a rock or a metal fan(you will then need an amp).

  • Effective AC(no auto climate control though). Even when the car was parked in the hot sun for a couple of hours, the AC ensured comfort within 3-5 mins of operation.

  • Unmatched fuel efficiency.(I learn from my friends circle that Ritz gives 16 kmpl and Polo 13 kmpl before the 1st service. I get 17+ with AC on always).

  • Fog lamps enhance the view while turning on dark roads, along those curves.

  • Electric ORVMs and remote hatch opener add to convenience.

  • Easy to access controls(will take some time to get used to the indicator, wiper and head lamp controls, if some one is not used to American design)

  • No rear power windows even in the top end model.

  • Rear window glass lowers to only half way through(it may be a matter of discomfort for some customers).

  • Low ground clearance. Some of those large, curt speed breakers(rather, car breakers), can be a spot of bother for the underbelly.

  • Only 4 alloys. 5th wheel is not an alloy.

  • Door locks from within the cabin are integrated into the same latch. You pull it out one stage to unlock and continue to pull it out further to open the door.(You may not want to travel alone with a 3 yr old hyperactive curious kid in the car!).

For Rs. 6.85 lakh(on road, Hyd), I feel Figo Titanium Diesel is a value for money car. I would recommend it to all my friends, who are in the market for a city-friendly, spacious hatchback.
