During the month of December, my email box was flooded with one email from my fellow email buddies asking me to vote for Taj Mahal as the Wonder Of the World. I was surprised to see only two Indian names featuring in it. One was Taj Mahal and the other was Meenaxi Mandir. But suddenly, a feeling of disgust, a feeling of shock passed thru my mind !How dare the list makers missed to include the living wonder of Indian Film Cinema i.e. Shakti Kapoor !
Given a chance, I would like to include a few more Indian Wonders to the list so that we are globally competitive !
Shakti Kapoor (He deserves the top spot and no one can displace him)
Mandira Bedi
Mallika Sherawat
Anu Malik
Sonu Nigam with his new uncut hair-cut
Silk Smitha & Disco shanti
And I bet all the readers would find it difficult to put ranks to these 7 shining wonders from India !
The statement that I just made above strengthening Shakti Kapoor's claim to the fame need some support and I'm providing that ! The Five golden roles in the small history of Indian Cinema !
Nandu sabka Bandhu in Rajababu : Shri Dadasaheb Phalke who is remembered as the father of Indian cinema must have repented in Heaven when he seen a character called Nandu in a movie called Rajababu !
Nandu signified epitome of creativeness from the dress designer of the film, Nandu's vocabulary put George Bernard Shaw's skills to shame, Nandu's stammer made Scatman wind up his business on Billboards and pack his bags to some Shudhha Vacha Clinic !
A nada hanging down from his hawaiin-textured bermuda, a banian exposing his muscles, a naughty smile and the sadhana haircut with extra long hair covering half of his eyebrows won Shakti Kapoor the Film-Fare Award for the Best Comic Role for the year ! The Makers of Fimfare must have wept in dark that night for making the Filmfare Idol of that of a female. The lady must have repented for holding her one hand up permanently !
Goli in Mein Khiladi tu Anadi : Shakti portayed a baddie in this movie whose hide-out is situated on a island ! Again the sadhana-haircut with hair covering the eye-brows was sported by Shakti Kapoor ! Shakti Kapoor playing a baddie in this movie gets no sumpathy when he is beaten by Akshay Kumar !
I think Ramgopal Verma was fully convinced to include the song ''Goli maar bheje me, ke bheja shor karta hai'' ... Have Shakti Kapoor and Shor band ho jayega !
Balama in Chaalbaaz : Balama stands for Ballanprasad Lallanprasad Maalpaani ! Shakti portayed one of the few immigrants that flock to Mumbai in heards every day ! Im not going to say that he looked horrible in that outfit.
Somehow I never tried to come up with any convincing answer as to how Shakti Kapoor always managed to look horrible in any outfit. This consistency also makes me recall someone called Sharad Kapoor. He also manage to look un-bathed in all the movies, in all the attires ! I'm puzzled and amazed too at their abilities to do so consistently !
Anyone seen this movie can recall the scene when Kadar Khan seen as the street-side begger loots Balama ! I was of the firm opinion after watching this balama thru the movie ke kadar khan should have killed him instead of looting him!
Salman's bhaiyya in Judwa : Another attempy by Shakti to make the stammering Scatman pack his bags ! This time Shakti played Salman's langotiya yaar...I bet if he is reading his review, he would like this relationship.
Sometimes, I wonder as to who was outrageous in Judwa..Was that Salman or Karishma or Rambha or Shakti ?
But Salman was too sobre than his off-screen activities in that movie...
Karishma was too sobre from her Sexy sexy image...
Rambha ! I dont want to have wrath of all my south-indian friends !
This leaves me with the one and only one Shakti Kapoor ! Shakti however delivered a few punches like ''Lajababu to gaye'' meaning ''Rajababu kho gaye'' or ''Bewatutta'' meaning ''Bewakuf tha'' !
Beggar in Eena Meena Deeka : I dont know how many girls drool over Shakti kapoor after watching him in umteen number of attempts on this fellow's part to look good. REcently I seen him in the Item Girl Hunt sporting a red blazer, golden glasses and one bali ! I'm sure he must have had a golden teeth too that time ! I thought the sponsors are gonna pick Shakti instead !
In this particular movie, shakti played a begger with torn clothes (God, he loves to shed clothes) with one stone-eye and a lame foot ! Imagine the miseries of viewers !
I dont see Shakti retiring from the Silver Screen very soon ... I just seen him in Hulchul playing Kareena's Dad and I'm doubly sure that after a few days I'll see him tearing Kareena's clothes as a baddy ! Shakti, thy name is versatilty !
