Favorite Best of the Worst!

Believe me, writing about a personality whom I Like in a negative way is very difficult task. If you dislike Shah Rukh Khan, then you need not worry – every movie of him gives enough scope to be bashed about, and one can enjoy ripping apart the same; however not so for a fan of Shhaahhh Rukkkh Kkkhaan like me. I love Shah Rukh Khan where he doesn’t associate himself with the Johar-Chopra-Barjatya Foundation (Whats left you might ask me, but err…), and when Shah Rukh really gets into the skin of the role, quite literally. Before making out which of SRK’s best of worst five movies, let me begin on the concept of ‘hate’, ‘dislike’ blah blah…

Why do most of us can’t bear to see Australian cricket team on screen and see their attitude? Why do we feel like going like kicking Glen McGrath every time that ass gets the better of Sachin Tendulkar? Most of us hate to see them playing – I simply HATE to see Australia showing so much attitude and cockiness on the field. Yet the un-disputed fact remains – Australians are the best in the game, and more the reason why many dislike them and their attitude. Look at MS – Why do we have only two categories – Worst movies of Amitabh and Worst movies of SRK? Why aren’t there any others who act in much worse movies? A Chinese proverb says ‘Only the best have enemies’ and its so true for Australia. The point I am driving - Its also true for Shah Rukh Khan.

However that doesn’t mean, SRK has not acted, over-acted and over-ultra-acted in a few movies, and all the ones below construe all his acting skills gone completely awry! Yeah, yeah, its coming from me!

Lets begin – SRK’s first foray into blood and bloodbath began with a horrendous movie called Anjaam. SRK took the role of psychotic obsessive compulsive hero rather too seriously (I wonder why), and re-invented his best performance from Darr and extended it by a mega-zillion! The Anjaam – an utterly disgusting SRK haranguing relentlessly with a twitching of his lips and blood in eyes, about true love and other issues! SRK has a nasty habit of letting his facial bones go all over the place if the director cannot control it, and the result of such an outing shows in this movie – SRK’s face for most part of the movie looks completely disfigured for his apparent love for twitching of his nose. He irritates, irritates and irritates even more till the heroine gives up her life to kill him – Such grace really! Forget this movie please!

The audience forgot the Anjaam of the movie in a hurry, but SRK apparently didn’t. The memories of his face going all over the place haunted him day and night – he had to make a comeback and make it work this time – and what better ways to do that then Ram Jaane. While playing Ram Jaane, what SRK didn’t realize was there are words like ‘Over-acting’ in the dictionary. This was SRK’s Hamming Best. Right from his haggard dressing of that brown coat with a scarf around his neck to his attitude of the cocky ruffian, everything was just too over over over (well …. Go on) done. Ram Jaane what happened to SRK in that venture, but SRK simply couldn’t control himself and eventually fell all over the place. SRK may realize now what a hamming session that movie was – Ram Jaane if he ever saw his own movie again!

However public memories don’t last, and especially not at Filmfare. Both the above movies got him Best Villain awards for those years, there by diluting the very meaning of those awards – I wonder why don’t they have a award called ‘Worst acting of the year’ (My lovely friends on MS will agree here that year after year, he may be the sole contender on winning it till finally he begins to disowns that award and allows others to win it – which then wouldn’t help the award since there wouldn’t be any more nominations!). However coming back to the topic, lets move on to another bests... rather worsts!! SRK-Rahul was at his hamming best again in the diabetic ‘Mohobbatein’. SRK’s mannerism looked everything but that of a teacher.

As a love lost musician and the savior of the three preppy idiots, SRK gives an amazingly idiotic performance which concentrated more on his goggles and his ‘extra’ sweater and less on the character. The very concept of the role of a teacher who is elegantly cocky is something which I have been trying to understand ever since. SRK hasn’t helped either –for nor was he elegantly cocky nor cockily elegant in the movie. Aditya Chopra who earlier cast him in DDLJ thought he did play that mature role of a mature teacher with kiddish brains rather superbly – he was not wrong – SRK just interpreted the role a little differently as a role requiring Kiddish Teacher with Kiddish brains. The result was SRK looking even more idiotic than the three idiots who were supposed to look like idiots in the movie.

Moving on, SRK never has realized he sucks in comedies. That he completely goes over the roof and falls flat has still not made him realize that comedies like Duplicate, PBDHH or Badshah or even one two ka four, are not his cup of tea – they are not coffee either for Govinda, but SRK was simply awful in those movies. (Ah, there, all the movies are definitely not from the Chopra-Johar foundation you will say, and I say – Haan Haan – tho kya?!). What I love about duplicate are the costume designers – At their expense, SRK is actually made to wear silvery head to toe dresses for a song – EEEEWWWWWW! I guess the costume designers were having more fun than SRK himself. SRK tries too hard to get that comic touch, however his twitching gets the better of him each time. That is not to say comedy is not his forte – he was simply excellent in another wise forgettable flick called K3G (The only saving grace of the movie being him and Kajol, whom I simply detest), in comic scenes.

Moving on, (I can almost see my friends Smirking – “see, you almost mentioned all his movies eh?!!), there is just one more movie. Thankfully the movie got wiped out even before it got wet – it went by a certain name called ‘Guddu’. You should not question me why I saw this movie – I know I lead a useless 3 hours of my life in the theatre seeing SRK pouting and panting with Manisha! The movie looked and felt like a wet Persian rug smelling awfully bad. SRK looked disinterested of the proceedings on screen, and there are places SRK almost looks tired (almost like – Hell! Please save me!!) and fails to ignite any kind of fire with the heroine. His other forays into Maya Memsaab and Gajagamini evoke similar passions – or rather the lack of it!

Well there – these are my favorite best of worst movies of SRK? Did I mention his filmography in this review? Quite simply NO – There are some roles only SRK can play and to justify it, I did rather write a review on it. I still look forward to all his movies – though I know not all of them can be good, especially in the Chopra-Johar foundation, however, some things you cannot just beat SRK. I like him for the very nature most of us hate him – Attitude.

Hail SRK!!!!
