Mahindra Scorpio(all variants)

-

The company spent$100 million for developement and forgot to get it crash tested. Or maybe did not care enough to do it.

Ugly, hideous looking beast.

Limited rear legroom.

Notchy gearshift. Feels like a stick.

Touted as an SUV. Its not any thing like an SUV. Its just a well painted jeep.

Decent engine and paint quality are only saving grace.

Gypsy is still King. I hear they only make them against orders now. Thats too bad.

Tata Sumo(all variants)

-

Only meant for transporting pilgrims to Tirupati, Sabarimalai and Dharmasthala. Tata’s managed to con a lot of people into buying these tin cans. Again no crash testing done. Instrument cluster, lighting pods and engine components come straight from their truck line up.

Noisy engine and gearbox. Poor fit and finish. Awful seats. No rear legroom. Travel more than 100 km continuously and even front passengers will feel the engine heat on their legs.

If Tata’s wanted to ’’learn’’ to build Cars and jeep type vehicles they should have exported these lemons to some African country or one of those banana republics in S.America.

Santro(not the Xing model)

-

One of the ugliest cars ever made. This was before they Europeonized the Santro with the Xing model. I’m referring to the pre-xing Santro.

No power. No torque. Limited boot space.

That aside the fit and finish was/is superior to any thing from the maruti stable.

Of course the looks were improved with the Xing. I think its slightly bigger too. But I havent driven this model so cant comment.

Ford Esc*rt

-

Late 80’s and early 90’s technology and model dumped on to India.

Underpowered car.

Very low ground clearence. You could not take even average potholes without scraping the bottom of the car.

Tata Sierra/Estate

-

Tata’s learnt how to build cars with these models. The unfortunate people who bought these two models paid for the development of the Indica V2.

Eye watering maintenance. You have to spend at least Rs.5000($100) each month just to keep it in running condition.

At the same time I must say the Tata Estate is a very fun car to drive. Powerful engine and light steering. Extremely spacious car. I have some very happy memories driving the Estate. If it wasnt for the maintenance cost and the fit and finish I would still buy it.
