Five x two.. !!
Oct 21, 2006 11:34 AM 3935 Views

I know I am writing something after a long sabbatical but those who are preparing/have prepared for the Civil Services Examinations would understand how difficult it is to find some time for creative writing. Anyways, I guess this topic is the right way to embark on my journey once again. *

1990’s was a decade of technical brilliance, songs and dances were made more chic and production values also took a giant leap, but technical gloss does not necessarily mean a good film and that is why some highly publicized films turned out to be big box-office turkeys. My list contains some of these films and also those which are most bizarre in its concept and execution, in short comical in its own way.(five is too less a number so I have increased it to 10).

10. Doodh Ka Karz(*ing Jackie, Neelam and two highly precocious snakes!!)1990 :-

I saw this film in a rickety cinema hall in Bhutan, when I was in class IV th. One of the most ridiculous films ever made, it has Aruna Irani playing a foster mother to a snake!! She even breastfeeds the snake in one scene, horrible for impressionable mind of a 10yr old(I partially owe my eccentricity to this movie!!).

9. KhalNayak(*ing Sanju, Madhuri and Jackie Shroff)1993:-

This is the second Subhash Ghai movie in the countdown. I. frankly, don’t consider him as an excellent director (barring a Karz or a Meri Jung here and there), but in this movie he was at his melodramatic best. Sanjay Dutt looked more like a buffoon than a scary villain and it was a pain to see my fav. Actress Madhuri doin a Choli Ke Peechey , and on top of that there was Rakhee shouting BAAllooo !!  Too masaledaar for me to digest!!

8. Raja Hindustani (*ing Aamir Khan, Karisma Kapoor, Suresh Oberoi)1996:-

I cried and pleaded to my mom to watch this movie!! sad but true, as a die-hard aamir khan fan, this was a must see. I got the shock of my life, when I saw him ham like never before and karishma?? She looked pretty but that’s just about it. Her wails of Raja Raja were as irritating as Johny Lever’s comedy. The only saving grace was Nadeem Shravan’s music.

7. Raam Jaane(*ing Shahrukh, Juhi, Viveck Mushran)1995-96:-

Shah Rukh Khan was at his irritating best in this movie, wearing a coat on his bare chest and sayin aeyeee aeyeee a thousand times, to accompany him was the too innocent Juhi Chawla, too dumb Viveck Mushran and a loud, screechy Puneet Issar, and the songs?? Phenk hawa mein ek chumma main catch kar lun!! Gawd!!

6. Diya Aur Toofan(*ing Mithunda, Madhoo)1995:-

This horrible movie is a sheer torture to anyone’s mind, I suggest to MSians if there is anyone whom you hate the most, make him watch this movie. It has one of the most absurd storyline which states brain transplant is directly proportional to a person’s sex change. lol!!  Mithunda desperately trying to be younger and Madhoo trying hard to pout are the other highlights of the movie!!

5. Maa Tujhe Salaam (*ing Sunny Deol, Tabu, Arbaaz Khan) 2002:- Really, these are the movies why a true connoisseur of cinema shies away from Sunny Deol flicks. The script, gravity defying stunts and of course the incessant shouting of sunny are enough reasons why a sane person should not watch these films.

4. Yaadein (*ing Jackie Shroff, Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor) 2001:-One of the most pathetic movie in the past five years, the characterizations were mere cardboard cut-outs, there was absolutely no coherence in the script and needless to say Subhash Ghai lost it big time!!

3. Hindustan ki Kasam (*ing Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgan and Sushmita Sen) 1999:- The punchline of the film was “A dream by Veeru Devgan”.. it turned out to be a nightmare for the audiences!!! It was a pain to see talented actors like Mr. Bachchan and Ajay Devgan in ridiculous outfits mouthing jingoistic dialogues in the name of patriotism. And the stunts!! They made me wonder if this film was made by earthlings!!

2. Andaaz(*ing Anil Kapoor, Karisma Kapoor and  Juhi Chawla) 1994:- I almost banged my head after watching this torture in the name of a film!! Karisma in a short skirt falling in love with her teacher Anil Kapoor, A shorts clad Shakti Kapoor falling in love with her teacher Kunika, yeh school hai ya love park??? The jokes were the most vulgar in the history of Indian Cinema, and so were the lyrics!! Strictly Avoidable.

1. Shapath(ing Mithunda, Jackie Shroff and Ramya Krishnan)1998:- And finally, Mr. Rajiv Babbar take my bow for before I watched Shapath I did not know that filmmaking can stoop to such a low level!!  Mithunda looking like a witch, Ramya as always trying in vain to be a seductress, there are some stunts like Jackie Shroff leaping in the air and lifting briefcases with his toes. Really, a cult classic on its own!! *
