Reliability issues with Bajaj bikes

  1. Bajaj Discover 110cc**: Due to low mileage complaints this bike is out of production, even a year old bike is giving just 40-50 kmpl. This bike was launched just 1.5 years back.

2. Bajaj Wave: This scooter's production is also closed, the main complaint was reliability of clutch system which used to fail ver often. The mileage is also varying too much. Some reporting healthy mileage of 50 kmpl to 35 kmpl. Bajaj is coming up with new model called Crystal, was soft launched in some cities to get feedback on issues.   *

  1. Discover125**: Reliability issues such as clutch problems, gear shift and very low mileage of about 45 kmpl even on new bikes.

3. Pular 180: Is also getting lots of reliability complaints and varying mileages, the power is going down after an year's use. Pulsar 180 Old model is considered to be better than P180 DTSi. With P200 coming soon P180 may be stopped.

4. Platina: Mileage is lower at 55-60 kmpl, electrical issues a big complaint.

5. CT100: Quality of parts are not good, promised mileage is 108 kmpl, but in real terms it gives less than 60 kmpl.

  1. Please be reminded, both Platina and CT100 production will stop anytime. so lowered re-sale value and spare part issues.

7. P220 soft launched in Pune is plagued with many issues, FI system is very unreliable & inconsistent, cold starting problem, rear disc is not good, engine not refined, bad gearbox, noise from engine and gearbox etc(even some magazines have reported these issues), though Bajaj knew all these it sold to the public. And now, Bajaj is planning new improved version in June2007. Bajaj will not take back bad bikes sold in Pune. What a disgrace for the company that wants to become No.1. The company has let down itself seriously by somehow selling problematic bikes to the public.

8. P200:  Due to P220 failure and P180 getting beaten by Xtreme in acceleration, Bajaj is adding 20cc to p180 and is selling with " Oil-Cooled Engine" Sticker. The system actually cools engine oil and Bajaj is saying it maintains optimum viscocity. But Engine is charaterised by the need of dynamic viscosity, i.e higher viscocity at higher speeds and lower viscocity at lower engine speed. So beware of Bajaj's so called unique designs. The words like'optimum'viscocity' is intelligently used by Bajaj to confuse novice buyers. The P200 engine is cooled by Air like any other bike. P200 will have some different bulb, different looks but the same P180 engine+ 20cc and nothing more . P200 is actually priced Rs.1000 less than P180, so P180 is going out.

  1. And finally, I don't want to talk more about Bajaj's bread n butter "THE P150 DTSi". The new ones are equally un-reliable and have same horrible gearbox, riding position still strains the back, there are complaints of Digital console going off and LEDs not working etc. Recently, my friend told that the all new P150 got beaten by a four year old Classic Pulsar(Non-DTSi) in a drag on Outer ring road in B'lore. Recently, when I went to a Pro-bike to see the new P200, I saw a 3 month's old P150 owner literally yelling at a manager due to the quality of the bike n service.

With so many issues as pointed above and frequent version changes, Bajaj is simply after HH to become No.1 but is caring NOTHING for the people who go Bajaj showroom and buy their product. I feel bajaj products should be avoided at all cost and go for Honda, Hero Honda and Suzuki, who are providing near issueless bikes. These companies put time-tested & proven BASIC MECHANICAL SYSTEMS like ENGINE, GEARBOX, CLUTCH & TRANSMISSION, giving you distinct higher reliability and good longevity of the bike.

Don't see this review as a "Bajaj bashing' but as a'Bajaj correcting", use it the way you want and be cautious, If bajaj produces issueless bikes then the credit should come to me as well for exposing their flawed bikes & strategies. My review, I feel is a Good Service, both for Bajaj n newbie buyers.

Want to see bajaj at top with top class bikes!

Choose wisely and live well.

Thanks

Shekhar
