Hum Paanch!!. Review on Five Worst Actresses of Bollywood Movies

A lot of our Hindi movie actresses have achieved cult status in spite of being such lousy actresses. I know it is too harsh on them to look sexy, dance around trees and then act as well. If they concentrate on acting, they lose out on looking good. If you are aware, most of them are too concerned about their body fat, their figure, the camera angles, their costume, their pay cheque than what they are there for: ACTING. When you are preoccupied with such concerns, you end up looking disinterested.

1.Zeenat Amaan:Zeenie baby. The dum maaro dum girl. Plenty of oooomph. Sexy.

But sorry,

~ monotonous dialogue delivery(among the firsts to use anglicized Hindi diction)

Sample: Vijaaaay! Tum nahin jaante main kitni majboooor hoon.

~ fixed set of facial expressions

I don't know why but I do find similarities between Mumtaz and Zeenat Amaan's acting. She also resembled Parveen Babi a lot. But Mumtaz was much better in the acting department although she started out as an extra and slowly carved a niche for herself as a lead heroine. Parveen was not as bad as Zeenat.

~ unability to be the character and limited range

Think Zeenat. Think clothes. Okay, you can't. Mention one role for which she would be remembered. 'Hare rama Hare Krishna'? 'Don'? 'Satyam Shivam Sundaram'? 'Qurbani'? One may argue that she was the first glam doll and that she did full justice to. But does that camaflouge her poor acting abilities?

2.Mala Sinha: I am surprised,shocked,amazed and aghast at how such a bad actress managed to land up with such enviable roles in big banners.

She was the WORST actress of the mainstream cinema of the black and white era. In fact, she was another black spot in them. She hammed,hammed and yes, you got it right,hammed until she made the character look like a buffoon. Look at her roles in 'Pyaasa', 'Gumraah', 'Himalay ki goad mein' and ' Aankhein' to name a few. The roles were very well written. But Mala Sinha made a mockery of the role by performing so badly that I pull up my hair as soon as I see her come on the screen.

Another irritating factor about her was that she pretended to look shy and beautiful and have all those nakhras that one hindi film heroine needs to portray but in reality she had none. It was one big put on.

3.Rakhi or Rakhee or Rakh-eeeeeeeeee : Enough has been written about her already (Refer to Premjit's review on the same topic.) I would like to add my two cents.

Rakhi was okay in 'Sharmilee', her debut. Then she went downhill and deteriorated as she aged. She was worst as playing mother to several lead heroes. Also, she wasn't classically beautiful at all. She was plump. She was ugly.

I read somewhere that our ex-PM , Atal Bihari Vajpayee has her as his favourite actress. I haven't found anyone else who finds Raakhi as his/her favourite.

Vajpayee ji...(pause)......(pause)......(pause)...,kya aapko neend mein bolne ki bimari ...(pause)......(pause)......(pause)...,Rakhi ji ki filmein dekhkar lagi...(pause)......(pause)......(pause)...,kyunki aap unki filmein dekhkar so jaaya karte the?

4.Amisha Patel : The white panter. She pants. Does she have Asthmatic problems? She looks scared all the time. I am not sure what she is afraid of.

She was okay in 'Kaho na Pyaar hai'. But then somewhere, came a movie called 'Gadar- Ek Prem Katha' and Amisha decided she would carry on the same expressions and same look in all her movies. She even remarked: 'At the cost of being immodest, I would say Gadar is my Mother India'. Wow! these actresses, if you can call them, already find them in the league of Nargis and Madhubala.

I hear she runs a mile before she gives a shot. Therefore, the gasps for breath and the natural effect.

Amisha as an actress is neither here nor there. She isnt too glamourous nor does she act well. So she cannot even be a pin up girl.

5.Aishwarya Rai : Ever watched a puppet show? Nope? Okay, ever seen a mannequin at a garments store? Nope?? Okay okay. Ever seen a cute little girl playing with a Barbie doll? Nope again?

Well, Ever seen Aishwarya Rai 'act'? Now, what is that? I was just trying to give you similarities between Aishwarya Rai and the above. She is as cute as a Barbie doll. She is as adorable as the mannequin at the garments store. Sorry, you can ogle at it but can never take it home. And she is as good at acting and performing as a puppet.

Her erect posture, walking the ramp walk, 3 and half inches smile and moron expressions = a pathetic piece of acting.

Miss world? Beauty Queen? Most beautiful woman in the world? Judge at Cannes film festival? Sorry, does not quite make up for her poor performances.

That ends my review.
