As Crap As It Gets!

My list of Five Worst Actors in Hollywood, of recent times, written in no specific order is as follows. The views expressed below are personal and are not intended to offend anyone.

Sylvester Stallone

A fairly obvious choice and no prizes for guessing why! His ?gung-ho, lone ranger, I-always-want-to-be-the-hero? roles have fetched Mr. All Brawn and No Brains the title of the Worst Actor of the Century! Also winning the maximum number of Raspberry awards has made him the All Time Razzie Champion (if there was any competition in the first place!). His performance is excruciating to watch and his perpetually inexpressive face does not help an already crap storyline.

Most of his films revolve around a ridiculous plot, numb acting and senseless explosions. Some of his forgettable movies include Daylight, Demolition Man, Tango and Cash, Judge Dredd, Cobra, Get Carter. Movies like Oscar and Stop! Or My Mum Will Shoot were rare and genuine attempts to do something different from his usual action roles, which went unnoticed. One can only hope that he can enthrall us once again like he did in the Rocky series. Lucky to have a long and successful career, this is one actor who shows no signs of improvement as far his acting skills are concerned.

Ben Affleck

One thing Ben Affleck has done consistently in his career is to get worse and worse. I have no idea how he has managed to survive this long. Some of his atrocious movies I?ve seen so far are Daredevil, Paycheck, Changing Lanes, Forces of Nature and Pearl Habour. Changing lanes was not that bad, since it had Samuel L. Jackson. Daredevil was a pathetic and underwhelming movie. It tried to emulate Spiderman, Batman and other superhero movies but somehow it didn?t fit in that genre. I keep watching his movies in the hope he?ll get better. But that apparently hasn?t happened so far! His recent release, Gigli, bombed big time in the box office. The film also stars his ex- girlfriend J.Lo. Gigli was rated as one of the worst movies last year. I haven?t seen this movie yet and would like to avoid it for good reasons.

Keanu Reeves

Frankly, I never thought Keanu Reeves would have a very long career after watching his juvenile acting in Bill & Ted?s Excellent Adventures and River?s Edge. I was wrong! He managed to surprise everyone by starring in hits like Speed, Bram Stoker?s Dracula, Point Break, The Devil?s Advocate and The Matrix in the 1990?s. The recent Matrix installments and Something?s Gotta Give were huge successes too. But, time and again, he has managed to convince us that he just cannot act! His impassive, wooden performances and pedestrian dialogue delivery do no justice to his characters. He should seriously consider taking acting lessons. Few of his unremarkable movies I?ve seen are Chain Reaction, Johnny Mnemonic, The Replacements, Little Buddha, Hardball, The Gift and Sweet November. I?d like to see him play more action hero roles; at least that?s what he?s good at.

Adam Sandler

Oh Boy! I don?t know where to begin since I can write a complete dissertation on him. It?s hard to tell which needs more criticizing- his incompetent acting ability or the kind of movies he does. I?ve seen him play stereotypical dumb roles far too many times now. In all his films, he appears to be an immature overgrown child. Uninspiring movies like 50 first dates, Little Nicky, Anger Management, The Wedding Singer, The Waterboy, Happy Gilmore comes to my mind when I think of Adam Sandler. His movies have the same theme- combining childish humor and sentimentality. But somehow he never gets it right. You?ll feel left out if you don?t share his silly sense of humor. He is the executive producer and screenwriter in most of his movies, which means that he gets his unimaginative screenplay made into movies and gets all his friends involved in it too!

John Travolta

I don?t know if John Travolta?s inclusion might surprise you, but I definitely feel he deserves a place in this list. Gone are the days when John Travolta could light up the screen with his smooth and electrifying dance moves in movies like Grease and Saturday Night Fever. What remains now is pitiful to watch. I was unfortunate enough to see his deplorable and abysmal acting in movies such as Battlefield Earth, Look who?s talking now, Look who?s talking too, Swordfish, The General?s Daughter, Michael, Staying Alive. With his ?over-the-top? and degenerating acting skills he is sometimes personally responsible for movie failures in the box office. It?s a real shame! What happened to the Travolta I saw in Pulp Fiction? Its quite depressing to witness such talent go to waste.
