Christmas is always the most blissful time of the year. The department stores are blooming with holiday sales; the city is lit up with Christmas decorations. The radio stations bombard you with the most cherished Christmas music past and present.
And television and movie theaters are bombarded with holiday releases that will stay with us. And Christmas is a cherished time when family and friends come together, and exchange gifts. I've seen some pretty good Christmas movies in my time and my choice for the best Christmas and most watched released are:
Bad Santa (2004)
"Bad Santa" is directed by Terry Zwigoff and stars Billy Bob Thornton who portrays a very different version of Santa. First, he's Jewish, and he's very vulgar. Profanity, alcoholism and obscenity are his typical way of life. In this odd and touching movie Santa meets a lonely child ( Bretty Kelly) who just wants Santa to love him.
Santa's annual routine at the local department store involves a life of crime, Santa and his Elf/accomplice plans are to rob the department store at the close of the day. But things change for Santa when he meets a lonely child who sees the good in him despite his crude life style.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas made for television (1966).
This animated childrens tale by Dr. Seuss is hailed as an American gem, and holiday family classic. Narrated by the legendary actor of horror films as {Frankenstein, The Mummy 1932} Boris Karloff portrays the Grinch a green mammal who lives on a hill in the town of Whoville.
The Grinch hates Christmas, and plots a scheme to stop Christmas for the towns’ people of Who ville. The Grinch begins his mission when he visits the home of Cindy Lou, and steals all of the Christmas decorations and food from her home. He missions ends when he steals the decorations from the city as well.
The Grinch gets a big surprise when he learns that despite his efforts to stop Christmas for Who vile the town of Who ville will celebrate Christmas anyway.
The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)
Tim Burton directs, and produce this animated children's holiday tale. In this tale a Pumpkin King from Halloween town decides he will turn the Christmas holiday to Halloween.
His mission begins when he kidnaps Santa Claus and visits a local city, and drops Halloween frights down the chimneys of children scaring them, causing mayhem, and destruction to the city. The Police have been informed of the holiday caper and shoots him down.
The Nightmare Before Christmas is a great fun filled musical that includes excellent claymation, vocal talents, spectacular visuals, and special effects.
Scrooge made for television, and theatrical release written by Charles Dickens in this English holiday tale a rich old man hates Christmas. He is visited by three holiday ghosts that will take him on a journey of his past life of selfishness and evil pride.
The final journey of his life by the third ghost gives him the ultimate scare of his life, and converts him to the heartfelt meaning of Christmas. Scrooge offers an excellent story line, great acting by the cast and heartfelt climax. There are many versions, and dates of release for this film. All are a treat to which at this time of the year.
Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer made for television (1965) in this children's holiday tale an odd little reindeer becomes an outcast by the other reindeer because of his shinny red nose.
However, little Rudolph becomes an important and most loved reindeer when Santa Claus gives him the job of guiding his sleigh on Christmas Eve. A must see holiday film. There you have it this is my choice of the best and most watched Christmas films.
