Five unsung heroes!

Well, as the title suggests, the people I am going to name here are heroes, or even heroines. But the catch is that they are UNSUNG and are made to feel like they are NOT really heroes, or heroines for that matter!

(5) ISHAA KOPPIKAR: This multitalented lady is forced to have an image of an item-number girl. Why this with Ishaa? She is right in each and every one of her reviews that she started of as the girl next door(Aamdani Atthani Kharcha Rupaiyya), then followed up as an item girl(Khallas in Company; Ishq Samundar in Kaante). Then on she became a popular. But alas the image was set of her. Some even forgot that she had played a girl next door before. They thought she's simply a sex symbol. She did great roles of a vamp in Qayamat and Girlfriend, then she did a superb job in handling a complex comic role in the recent success KYA KOOL HAIN HUM. Then she followed it up with a great screen presence in even a cameo in another recent success MAINE PYAR KYUN KIYA! Before her cameo in even DIL KA RISHTA as a helping friend of an emotionally disturbed Arjun Rampal was well done. Ditto for the adequate cameo of a gangster's wife in'D'! Ishaa remains heavily underrated despite full-fledge heroine roles too in movies like Inteqaam, that unfortunately turned out as BO disasters. She is certainly an unsung heroine who deserves much better than ladies who really expose and seem to be more successful. Mallika Sherawat(highly over-rated), Lara Dutta(highly-over-rated too), and Esha Deol(all hype no substance) are doing better for absolutely no REASON. If they are even half versatile, then they should do as many different roles like Ishaa has done and I might come back and do the editing!

(4) PANKAJ KAPUR: In terms of acting, Pankaj to me is better than his son, Shahid Kapoor. Period. Pankaj, despite being a senior artist has been under-rated for the most part. He arrived with'Maqbool' to win the best actor awards in the critics category last year. Unfortunately, his supporting roles before went un-noticed. Now that he's made the wise decision to come in full-fledge roles, he might be tough competition for over-rated son Shahid. Also, his recent comical performance in DUS is amazing. He is certainly the surprise package in the movie and proves his talent to even massy audiences that failed to take note of him in'Maqbool.' Overall, another underrated and sincere actor in Bollywood.

(3) ARSHAD WARSI: Another guy who has been utilized very late in his career. Had this review been written a couple of years ago, even guys like Saif Ali Khan and Abhishek Bachchan could've made it here. Today Saif and Abhishek are my fav. actors for all that they've done to sustain themselves and rise towards the top in the industry that under-rated them for so long. Same goes for Arshad. He doesn't have the dashing personas that Saif and Abhishek have, but still he has the talent to do serious roles(Waisa Bhi Hota Hai Part II and Sehar) and comic roles too(Munna Bhai MBBS, HULCHUL where he steals the show)! His upcoming movie Chocolate should do the trick for him no matter what sort of role he's in. He's proven his versatility and deserves to get the comic sidekick label off him. Yet if he has to live under the shadows of his low-on-substance competitors like Shahid Kapoor and Vivek Oberoi, then there's only one way. Arshad should be doing what he does best, comedy, just to rise up to where he belongs. Then he should do what Saif Ali Khan did, try hand at different roles like Ek Haseena Thi and Parineeta where he silenced his remaining critics.

(2) BOBBY DEOL: Bobby is another guy who has a label on him. Although good for him that he featured in successful action/suspense thrillers like GUPT, SOLDIER, AJNABEE and HUMRAAZ, he has been put a label on. A label of a serious action hero who cannot emote in any different role. Further comparisons with his dad and brother have made his rise in Bollywood quite hard, especially off-late. Even movies in which he  tried different roles-CHOR MACHAYE SHOR(good performance in a comedy), AASHIQ(good romance), and AUR PYAAR HO GAYA(comedy and romance combined), all failed due to poor way of making! Bobby suffered the most as people thought he might not be able to pull of any other role like his versatile father. Overall, Bobby deserves, and more than that, NEEDS a HIT to his career to prove his worth to the industry in which right now he remains under-rated. Flopping of Bardaasht and Jurm, two action movies which are his forte, and despite great performances by Bobby Deol in both of them, prove that Bobby desperately needs his next, BARSAAT to be a hit so that he consolidates his position in the industry.

(1) IRFAN KHAN: Irfan is arguably the most authentic actor that Bollywood has had in the last decade. Irfan can emote sensationally like Aamir Khan, he has the screen presence as good as Shah Rukh Khan, and he has the natural comic timing of Saif Ali Khan. Unfortunately, he doesn't have the attractive looks like either of the three above mentioned Khans, let alone comparing him in looks with Salman Khan. Yet, since we are talking about under-rated HEROES yet ACTORS at the same time, Irfan deserves a lot more than just stereo-typic remarks like'THE DULL ACTOR OF THE CRITICS'! He proved it with a romantic role in'ROG' and a comic role in the recent

'7 1/2 phere' that he is versatile and has more to offer than great performances in just movies like'HAASIL' and'MAQBOOL'! Overall, to me, in this list and even otherwise, Irfan is arguably the most under-rated actor of Bollywood since he has the potential to rise to the top. He has an improved personality too off-late and interviews that he appreciated female attention prove that the guy seems to have good time ahead of him which is indeed a great news for his loyal fans!

(1) URMILA MATONDKAR: Since this position goes to both a female and a male combined, I think Urmila deserves to be there with Irfan. This is an edited version of my review and since thinking of an ACT-ress, some one who is wonderful at ACTING, Urmila is certainly one of my favs. I just forgot to include her in my original list until another user reminded me in the comments section. So cheers to that someone(you can read their name at the comments page), Urmila certainly belongs there after outstanding performances like Rangeela, Deewangee, Bhoot, and Ek Haseena  Thi, and I guess the list goes on. Basically she is an award-winning actress by all means, and the critics do recognise that but now it's for the paying public and the masses to feel the same, the same way like that of Irfan. Urmila deserves whatever the user in the comments section said and thus shares the number one slot with Irfan Khan!
