Wow.I love such topics, where you can let your imagination soar. I guess I will have to divide this review in two different categories. One is if I had the Aladdin’s Lamp and I could ask for anything under the sun.including the sun!
To the Genie of the lamp:
Ok genie.here is the list! Wish I could get it!
1. Peace
Not just for me and my close ones, but for the whole world. Let there be no more wars, no more terrorism, no more sorrow. Let the whole world come together and live like one big happy family. Ok Genie, if you have noted that down, let us move ahead!
2. Complete end of Apartheid
I have many times noticed that unknowingly, we all are contributing to this apartheid. Somewhere in the subconscious mind, the fairer skin does feel superior to the darker skin. I, for one believe that if I had two children, one white and one black, I would have loved them both equally. So does God! So Genie, please purify everyone's heart and make everyone live like brothers and sisters, children of the one and the same universal power.
3. One Religion
Yes.I would like all to follow one universal religion - Humanity! There did be only one religious duty for all, and that would be to love everyone.
4. Elimination of selfishness
That would be the one thing I did like you to remove from every human being's mind. Selfishness - the core of vices like hate and envy. Let the qualities like compassion and love rule the senses. Dear Genie, please replace the love of power with the power of love!
5. Elimination of social evils
Oh Genie, please, oh please make my country free of social evils like dowry. And while you are at it, also make the villains understand the power of a woman. None of them would have come in the world had it not been for the courage and love of a woman, who gave birth to them. And yes, genie, will you also take care of the other social evils like drugs, corruption, illiteracy, poverty etc.? Thanks a lot!
Heh heh! Felt good talking to an imaginary genie! Ok folks, for the second category. This is on a personal front. The gifts I did love to get from family and friends.(I do hope some of my close ones read this!)
1. Music, of course!
Especially, R.D.Burman CDs! That is one of the best gift I can receive. Especially if they are rare ones. Other than R.D.Burman, I love soft instrumental music, jazz, western classical, Hindustani classical - instrumental, Jagjit Singh, Kishore Kumar and Talat Mahmood.
2. Books
My best friends! My favourite authors are P.G.Wodehouse, Jeffrey Archer and Charles Dickens in English, and P.L.Deshpande, V.P.Kale, V.S.Khandekar and many others in my mother tongue Marathi. Just listing them here to let you know whose books you should not buy. I have read all their books! Also add Sir Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes to that list.
3. Parache Men's Perfume
Have been trying to find it for the last 5 years. Just used it once!
4. A trip of Kerala
I have never been there.yet! But I do hope to see this beautiful place, this green haven, in the near future.
5. Five more wishes
Can't just seem to have enough of it!
Well, friends, I guess that's about it! On an ending note, I did like to mention that the best gift in both the above categories have already been received by me, and hence are not listed here.
From the genie of the lamp, I have received the gift of music, and from my wife, I have received the most beautiful baby in the world! Without both these gifts, I did be lost!
