Movies undermined!

Hmm.. 5 movies that have never made it up to their potential... Thats too small a count because such a category has several movies that ought to be mentioned.

Indian audience has always disappointed me on several accounts. They do not act well with brilliant movies. Always down the line its the star power or the banner that pulls in crowds but sometimes the most sincere attempts and the brightest movies have failed to get the deserved.

5 such movies:

1) Zubeida:

The Karishma Kapoor starer is a great period movie. The story set during and after the times of independence shows the journey of a young girl through her dreams where she makes up with the harsh realities of life one time too many. Zubeida has the best ever pace in any movie that I have seen considering the plot. It moves along the storyline with amazing grace coupled with acting brilliance off Rekha, Manoj Vajpai and mostly off Karishma, which I would have thought impossible. But this is by far is her best movie!

The direction is awesome when it comes to making period movies. The entire look and feel is taken care of by the old black fords and the palaces of Fatehpur Sikri. All in all a must see. And as expected, it didnt work well. Yet ''double thumbs up'' on my behalf!

2) Aar Ya Paar:

The all time best suspence/thriller. Jackie Shroff starer, it is one of the few movies that manage to maintian the basic core thrill of the novel it is taken off. The entire plot keeps the audience grabbed and alert at all the right spots. It has the rare combination of smarts as well as basic Bollywood skin show. But must watch for those who dig thriller reads!

3)Maya Memsaab:

A movie which if would have succeeded in Indian cinema it would have shocked me. But nonetheless its one of the best movies I have seen. Revolving around and tracing the entire rise and fall of the lead character the story takes in on several questions and tries to answer or rather raise questions of symbolic brilliance. Though lifted off an English flick, it still is a very comendable copy.

4) Dil se:

Not much to say on this. All know what calibre this movie had. I am simply disappointed that a movie of such cinematographic brillliance failed even after using such high star magnets. Would have made a great flick but sometimes audiences are simply hard to interpret!

5) Black:

Though it has been appreciated on a large scale, I don't see the movie being appreciated as much as the stars in it. Be it the actors or the crew, its only the makers that are being talked about. The entire project or the overall movie is of such technical and artistic brilliance that it hasn't been really mentioned. The visuals as well as the script are the finest Indian cinema have ever seen and yet it has been overridden by the performances of the actors, which undoubtedly are beyond anything I had ever expected.
