Kavita K- Defines "Classic"

Kavita Krishnamurthy is a classically trained singer, with a voice so unique that new playback singing contestants lack today, whether you areShreya Ghoshal, Shweta Pandit, Pamilla Jain, orSneha Pant. Kavita began her career in the late 70s, along with Anuradha Paudwal andAlka Yagnik, and is considered a popular and well-rounded singer. She has given very many hits ranging from "Hawa Hawaii, Bin Tere Sanam, and Mere Piya Ghar Aiya, (to name a few) to more recent hits, such as Main Vari Vari, sung along withReena Bhardwaj, who does a great job to furnish the song. She can be heard singing again in the film, Babul, in the songGaa Re Maan, which was a lively track. To date, Kavita has won four filmfare awards, and the prestigious Padma Shree.

Her voice is frequently criticized for its lack of sweetness and softness, which singers like K.S Chitra, Alka Yagnik, Anuradha Paudwal etc. posess. Although she does sing in Bollywood, her voice is suited for classical numbers, rather than usual melodies and romantic duets, which I personally find her voice to be incompatible. A positive note about her voice; however, is that her vocals are never screechy, as you would often find with high-pitched voices like Alka Yagnik. This lends her the capacity to higher ranges without damaging the ear drums . At times; however(and this is just my understanding/opinion), she tends to sound nasal with some of the higher notes.

Her mature voice often makes you want to forget Shreya Ghosal, who has just begun climbing the ladder of success with her sweet crooning. Kavita is much different- her versatility speaks on it's own, and this can be evidenced in most of the songs she has sung. She can be serious, playful, and just charismatic in her renditions. In addition, she tends to compliment Alka Yagnik whenever the two are heard together, and vice versa. I cannot find other singers who manage to do that and I enjoy listening to them both in many of the songs they have sung together.

Top 5 songs of Kavita K.S:

The list is endless.*
