!!!*** Hail to the Genius: WHY JUST 5?? ***!!!. Review on Five Best Songs of Udit Narayan

I think we all owe big time for this free-flowing always cheerful personality. After the God-like stints of Rafi, Kishore, Mukesh, Manna, Lata, Asha(still) & such; this is the only guy who I can count on to be a future God! In my opinion not enough has been credited to this genius. As this review is about only 5 songs. I wil use considerable space for talking on udit himself.

I wil give you 5 songs that I think are good but believe me I can give 50 such great songs from Udit within a few minutes. Such is a spread of this master.

Born in Saharsa(Bihar), Udit came of age in late 80s & specially from QSQT, this was a fresh movie & a breath of fresh air at that time by Mansoor Husain(Nasir H's son). Just recall the mediocrity of the likes of Shabbir Kumar(Mard Tangewala Hun main fame!?) & Mohammad Aziz(to some extent bearable than Shabbir)! My God! These to guys were the worst nightmare of the music lovers.

I can write volumes about Shabbir Kumar's songs. Hell, I can even very well mimic his voice & sing in his voice for hours.(I needn't tell you now that I am not a very good singer!):) You are not able to recall how bad he was check out a few quick songs:

Sun Rubiya Pyar Ho gaya Pyar ho gaya kya kare(Ouuuch.a big ouuch) / Mard Tangewala hun main-Kyon Bhai badal Q bhai Moti such keheta hun main? / Accident ho gaya rabba rabba / THE BEST: Galee Galee badnaam ho gaya.mere pyar ka meter down ho gaya! Bhappi+ Mithun+ Shabbir -> Could it be anymore worse!?

So you could imagine & put Kumar Sanu & Nadeem-Shravan's success in perspective. Kumar though highly nasal was also a GREAT news for masses. He was reasonably well singer & was at large for late 80s eraly 90s.

However Udit on the other hand was at the same time as successful but with a much wider range & with a'Umada-Awaaj' which is hard to quantify. He even sidelines Lata in'Na jane mere dil ko kya ho gaya'. This song comes across as sublime until Lata kicks(literally) in with'Ho gaya hain tuzhako to pyar sajana'!. His'Jaaadu teri najar' from Darr was almost Rafi/Kishore quality & even today amazes me for its freshness & the way Udit starts this song. Man, he is khoool or what!

Just check another song(Tu Mere samane) from Darr'Teri julphonse khelunga main, tuzhko baahonmain lelunga main', This songs get its personality just bcos of Udit's voice. The greatness of this guy will be easily apparent by just thinking of someone else in the same song. I even don't dare to compare Udit to my abovementioned Gods. It will be hard to digest for me if the outcome is controversial & not what we obviously think! Lets not go there then!:)

How about'Rook ja O Dil deewane, puchhu to main jara, Ladaki hain ya hain jaadu' - AAAYYY BHAAAY.isn't it a masterpiece? Watching Shahrukh move on this tune/song was a treat to the eye but at the same time impact was owned by Udit. Similarly his'Aisa jakaham diya hain' is a god-send. The genius moves ahead with this song with such a simplicity.he makes it look like ridiculously easy! Same with'Raaja ko raani se pyar ho gaya'.

Hear him in Rangeela:Ayyyy bhaay.mere bhaay.ik taraf to usse pyar kare hum.Koi badi baat nahi, hame kehena tha jo bhi woh to hum yunhi kehete magar, phir bhi kaha nahi wajah usaki thi yanhi ke bas inakar se hamako tha dar.ab kahe kab kahe kaha kahe kab kahe soch soch main hi woh gayee nikal.haaaay Haaay re Haay Udit.THANKS for this song.! Remember his'Kisi ke ishq main khud ko mitadu uuu.ye ho nahi sakata, yeh ho nahi sakata'? I bet you do! Remember that movie.maybe not!:)

He gave pretty amazing songs for both Aamir & Shahrukh. Jo jeeta woh sikandar is a good example: Woh Sikandar hi dosato kehelata hain & also this one Sheher ki pariyon ke pichhe. But the masterpiece was certainly Pehela Nasha; Pehela Khumar

I would rate his most adorable song as: Mere sanso main basa hain tera ki ek naam.teri yaad humsafar subah-sham.teri yaad humsafar subah-sham I was so impressed with this song, I didn't listen to anything for days! My my my! what a honest performance?'Badal ke haatho main bheju tuzhko ye payam, teri yaad humsafar subah sham.'. If you need someone to company you to just realise how GREAT this song is.gimme a holler!

What makes me respect him more if his stage-appearance. He is ever-enthu to sing/dance at the same time & seems to be enjoying every moment of it. He must respect the people spending their hard-earned money to hear-see these people. You need to stop him from sining in these concerts etc such is the devotion of the man.(You know what, It just struck me.is he Sachin Tendulkar of singers!?)

What one can say about'Ay ajanabi tu bhi kabhi awaj de kahin se' from Dil Se? The stanzas are sungs with great intensity & the honesty/humility that resides in this guy.'Tu to nahi hain lekin' or'Roj Roj resham si hawa', special effort is on'tu hain kaha kaha hain, tera nishan kaha hain, mera kahan kaha hain' Check out his Deewana Dil Deewana, Kab se kare hain tera intajaar along with Amit Kumar. These were the days Sharukh was good actor!:)

Similarly'Aye ho mere jindagi main tum bahar banake, mere dil maini yunhi rehena tum pyar pyar banake' is just adorable! Wow! Jeyo Udit Jeyo!

He was the reason(along with maybe Karishma) I could watch Dil to pagal hain completely. What a performance on'Bholi si surat'. Similarly'Hum Dil De Ke chuke Sanam'(!); When Sanu tries to make his nose clean with Annnkhoonnnki Gusttaaakhiyaaaaannnn maaaaannnf ho Udit sings lively/charismatic Chand chhupa badal main. Hear him say'Seeene se laga ja tu' & you wil understand the'freshness' factor. Same with'Kuchh kuchh': Koi mil gaya mera dil gaya, kya batwun yaaron main to hil gaya

OK now allow me to stop here & list down his 5 songs(which is a pity considering his range & the work he has done already). I could have very well chosen all the songs mentioned above & I know for sure that I have not even talked about his other 50 movies that I could have!
