Rose petals dropping on ears..............

Or shall I say raindrops winking on the face. Well, everything seems happening when her mesmerizing voice falls on the ears.

She is now the little queen of the elite group of bollywood playback singers and hence need no introduction. She is said to be the next nightangle after lata mangeshkar. Rightly said indeed! Well, Shreya Ghoshal has reached a stage where almost every film album has a song sung by her. She sings with so much feel that one can’t help but hear it and fall in love with it.

As far as choosing her best five songs is concerned, it’s like choosing five rose petals out of a bunch of roses. In a very short span of time, she has done a jadu and its nasha is pondering over everybody now. In my list of her five best songs, Jaadu Hai Nasha Hai will not be there, since it is one of the greatest songs of the bollywood and hence does not come in competition with any of her other songs. One more thing is to be noted is that all her songs are equally best and just for the sake of this topic this thing is going to be done. So let me now pour over the beauty of her versatile voice and decorate it in my own words.

1) Piyu Bole(Parineeta): Really after hearing this my jiya also dole. This is one of the sweetest songs sung ever. Sung together with the maestro Sonu Nigam in one of the best albums of 2005, Shreya’s this song is totally different from her other songs. While singing this, she had to keep in mind some of the expressions of the concerned actor also. These things are not easy. But most importantly, her voice in this song is very sweet. Great work!

2) Bairi Piya(Devdas): I genuinely believe this was toughest of the songs sung by her till today. But she sung it so fabulously, it looked as simple and soothing as tough it is. And the more important fact is that this was her first song and she sung it in one attempt only. The notes of this song are variable in nature and it demands versatility from the singer. But she proved that she is more than versatile and I must say that more than that hug by bhansali, she deserves lots and lots of accolades also!

3) Chalo tumko lekar chale(Jism): undoubtedly, this film was the turning point of her career. She produced two of the most hummable songs of that year. Although jaadu hai nasha hai got much appreciation, both the songs were sung equally best. The difference lied in the composition and that fetched the later one the tag of one of the best songs of bollywood. And rightly so!

4) Ek pal ke liye(Ankahee): Well, I am finding myself short of words now. Nevertheless, this song proved the power of female voice in front of male where KK and Sonu Nigam sung the same song but it rather seemed three different songs with the one of sonu, the most inferior. It can also be said that Shreya made it look like. Apart from that, she handled the strong lyrics of this song very delicately particularly whenever she re-started after a brief pause.

5) Yeh kya hua(Tera mera pyar): well, I know not much people would be willing to put this one in the top five. But my instinct says otherwise. It was not the composition but the singing, which put this song in the position in which it is. I just can’t stop myself from using the word versatile one more time since it is the quality which the god has enriched her with and its quite well reflected in this song. Need I to say anymore?

Well, it was a Herculean task for me to choose the five and keep aside the songs ‘Suna Suna’ and ‘Naam Ada Likhna’ from this list. But I tried my best to choose the five which are popular more due to singing rather than composition. There are many songs, which she has sung beautifully but their compositions are equally good.

I was just going through her interview last week where she said that she might soon come out with her first album. Further, on being asked whether she has any plan of acting, she said while she was singing for saaya, Mahesh bhatt told her ‘beti jab tum gati ho to bahut bindaas lagti ho’. She had a guest appearance in the same film. Well, I wonder how would she look like if she acts in a film!
