I had a dream album in mind with a compilation of Shaan's ever-lasting hits. I got something closer to it in his album Bhool Ja. But now mixing Hindi music together should make it a better experience. So I won't make 5, but an album of 12 songs with Shaan in no particular order of quality.
1) AUR MOHABBAT HAI(MAIN PREM KI DEEWANI HOON)-Probably the best song of the year 2003. It was instantly a come-back theme for AB Jr. whose career then on kept going higher and higher. Shaan was the one to set the mood straight with wonderful execution of this wonderful melody that's surely one of his best ever!
2) DUS BAHANE(DUS)-A high-flying number that was wonderfull sung by Shaan all the way. The song had Shaan written all over it. Despite K.K. being equally good, Shaan too was a show stealer making the song one of the biggest racy hits ever. A great song that needs no introduction, especially now when it's rocking people's worlds!
3) WOH PEHLI BAAR(PYAR MEIN KABHI KABHI)-One of the best songs one has ever listened to. It has wonderful foot tapping music yet accompanied by extremely meaningful https://lyrics. A wonderful combination of contemporary music with classical melody. The song is just lovable in Shaan's vocals and an instant success with the listener.
4) BHOOL JA(TITLE SONG OF ALBUM)-A very racy track again with sensitive mood set by the lyrics and wonderful vocals of Shaan who give the song a new life all the time.
5) MOHABBAT HAI MIRCHI(CHURA LIYAA HAI TUMNE)-Shaan just uplifts the whole song with his versatile singing ability making it a rocking track in an otherwise mediocre movie.
6) MOHABBAT MEIN YEH(SSSSHHH.)-Another unnoticed movie but yet if this song is heard, one can say it is one of the best in fast music. A track that has Shaan written all over it with a lot of contemporary beats and lyrics to please the youth!
7) IT'S THE TIME TO DISCO(KAL HO NAA HO)-Yet again Shaan sings a faster number to perfection with wonderful lyrics all the time overshadowing co-singers K.K. and Vasundhara, who too sing well but Shaan steals the show clearly. A song that grows on you, this one reminds one of Shaan's wonderful singing abilities!
8) HAR TARAF TU HI RAHE(RISHTEY)-This time a comparitively slow and passionate song but Shaan's vocals again stand out with the wonderful music and the song sounds extremely good and meaningful on the whole!
9) SHIKDUM(DHOOM)-Although this tune is rumored to be lifted, yet the song went on to become a super hit along with the movie. Why? Because Shaan rocks the audios as much as Abhishek rocks in the video. A wonderful song on the whole thanks to Shaan's marvellous vocals that contribute immensely in lifting the whole song up.
10) KYA MAINE SOCHA(RAKHT)-Although this one too was an inspirational lift from UK band BLUE, Shaan justifies the lift by proving he is no lesser than the wonderful'BLUE' boys and gives an equally convincing performance. The song was already a big success in UK as an English version. Shaan just adds his bit two the Hindi version to enhance the beauty of this peppy number.
11) TANHA DIL(TITLE SONG OF ALBUM)-Wonderfully sung song by the great Shaan. This song marked his true entry into the big world of singing. Before this one he was taken largely non-seriously but this song was his ticket to stardom and there was no looking back for Shaan. He is today one of the most promising and sought-after singers in the industry because of this song wonderfully composed and rendered song that will me remembered as the vehicle that transported the talented guy into the big leagues.
12) DIL KYA KARE(REMIX)-A classic remixed is hard to sing even half as well. Its popularity is highly questionable, especially at a time when a singer like Shaan is not that popular. But Shaan delivered here too, giving another hit like Tanha Dil that brought him into the big leagues. His remix today is more liked and remembered thanks to his wonderful rendition and a good added beat. The youth and the seniors alike took instantly to this song that is no doubt deserving of being called a classic in its own right!
Overall, Shaan's top 12 here prove his calibre as a singer. He can sing slower, melodious songs to perfection; he can sing remixed versions to perfection; he can be a success in the pop world; last but not the least his specialization in more youthful numbers, especially the racy ones, that become instant hits and keep consolidating his already strong position in Bollywood. Shaan is a classic singer and may be I have forgotten some of his great songs while making this list. I will sure try editing if I think of another great number.
