~The 'Shaan' of Bollywood~. Review on Five Best Songs of Shaan

Well…… what can one say about Mr. Shantanu Mukherjee…. Oooops… I mean Shaan?

That he’s a great singer, one of the best around.

That he’s also one of my favourites. Infact a favourite of many millions.

That he’s single-handedly made a respectable name for himself in the Bollywood music industry, where fortunes change every Friday.

That he’s successfully taken the role of playing the host of the extremly popular music show: “TVS  SaReGaMaPa”, from the man himself…. Sonu Nigam.

That he’s worked with all the leading music directors in the industry like…. A.R. Rehman, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, and Rakesh Roshan…. To name just a few.

….And that he’s accomplised all this despite being an untrained singer!

All these achievements themselves speak volumes about the man, his talent, and his dedication! So without wasting any further time, here’s my list of:  “Best five songs of Shaan”!

*Since all his songs are anyway wonderfully sung, I’ve only the selected songs that I love listening to all the time….

So their inclusion in the list, does not in any way indicate how perfect they are technically.*

So here goes(in order of prefrence!):

5.  Ladki Kyon….(Hum Tum): ** I just looove listening to this song! It has oodles of that ‘masti’ factor in it! The lyrics are of course very funny, but the way its been sung is also very fresh, energetic and lively! You can actually sense the exasperation in his voice as to why ladkiyan are the way they are!

Ladkon si nahin hoti….

Sochti hai zyada, kam woh samajhti hai,

Dil kuch kehta hai, kuch aur hi karti hai.

1. Woh Ladki hai kahan….(Dil Chahta hai):** Another of Shaan’s really ‘cute’ songs! The video, and Farah Khan’s signature moves only add to the ‘cuteness! I just feel like jumping to my feet and dancing away… whenever I hear the song!

Jise dhoondhta hun main har kahin,

Jo kabhi mili mujhe hai nahin,

Mujhe jiske pyar par ho yakeen,

Woh ladki hai kahan?

3.   Kuch to hua hai….(Kal Ho Na Ho): ** Oh! How I love this song! Just the mesmerising feel of the voices as well as the video itself…. Make this one of my most loved songs! Shaan’s voice suits Saif’s so perfectly well too…… Just too good…

1. Tanha dil… & Bhool Ja….(Album): Both the songs came together ‘coz firstly they’re from the same album…. And secondly ‘coz they’re really nice songs! And I really like Shaan in both of them…. The first one’s a mix of sadness, determination and lonliness, while the other is a perfect song to **console someone with!

Dhoondhe tujhe, Fir kyon Nazar,

Bhool ja, jo hua use, bhool ja,

Hai kasam tujhe, muskura,

Khudko yun na de tu saza,

Un yaadon ko tu bhool ja….

And now…. for the top place! It goes to- Drumroll- oops. it’s a tie!

1.   Musu musu…. & Woh pehli baar…(Pyar mein kabhi kabhi): They had to be at the top! Both are my favourites! While one is the sweet ‘college’ song…. The other is the typical ’first love’ song! And both are equally innocent and endearing! I guess as a teenager, I adore these….

Zara muskurade, muskurade,

Woh pehli baar, jab hum mile,

Haathon mein haath, jab hum chale,

…And the other ’first’ is…….

1.   Naam aada likhna….(Yakeen): This is one song that completely bowls me over! The feel of it is so sweet, so soft, so tender…. ooh! I just love it! This had to be at the top….

Pooche jo koi, meri nishani,

Rang hi na likhna… Gore badan pe,

Haathon se mera, naam sava likhna…

So that was my list(though I managed to squeeze in eight, instead of five! Hee hee!) …. and some songs that narrowly missed out were:
