** And The Alka Era Continues.... **

Alka Yagnik is often a very underrated singer. I feel the reason is because we have got used to her voice. We hear it on every album, in most songs.we just look for  a change. Yet that does not mean we can just cancel her out and pretend that she does not exist. She has a sweet and simple voice, yet sometimes goes shrill. Her voice works in dance numbers, in wedding songs, in tragic songs and just in your regular bollywood movie trash!:D She is everywhere if we look around. She has done so many songs that it is impossible to just choose 5, yet I have chosen 10 and am going to put down 5 random favourites of mine down. Hope you like them -

Bahon Ke Darmiyan - Khamoshi

-

Alka is paired up with Hariharan. Some may think this is quite an unusual pair as Hariharan is quite a selected singer, whereas Alka is in most Bollywood albums. However, they both do very well in this song. I especially recommend you listen to Alka's verse because it has great lyrics and she sings it very well. She injects a romantic, breathless tone into this song which works very well. Music is brilliant!

*Aasman ko bhi ye, haseen raaz hai pasand,

uljhi uljhi saanson ki, aawaaz hai pasand,

moti luta rahi hai, sawan ki badaliyan,

bahon ke darmiyan, do pyar mil rahe hai.*

Aisa Kyon Hota Hai - Ishq Vishk

-

Ok ok folks, I haven't chosen this song because its from a Shahid Kapur movie. I think Alka adds a great feeling of youth to this song. You should definitely listen to this song to hear Alka at her best. She makes you feel as if she is a young schoolgirl who is confused about whats happening to her feeling after falling in love. Lyrics are average(good) but Alka gives them grace and makes them shine!

*Mere dil ko ye kya ho gaya,

mai na janu kahan kho gaya,

kyun lage din me bhi raat hai,

dhoop main jaise barsaat hai,

aisa kyon hota hai, baar baar,

kya isko hi kehte hai pyaar.?*

Gazab Ka Hai Din - Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak

-

This is a great early Alka song to listen to. A brilliant song from a brilliant movie, Alka really shines in this song! This shows how she was in her early days. Her voice is full of innocence and is so.pure! If you compare it to one of her songs these days, you can definitely hear the difference! Lyrics are nice and sweet.music is good!

*Dekhlo, hamko kareeb se,

aaj hum, mile hain naseeb se,

ye pal fir kahan, aur ye manzil fir kahan,

gazab ka hai din, socho zara,

ye diwanapan, dekho zara.!*

Mere Humsafar - Refugee

-

This is one of my favourite Alka Yagnik songs ever! She completely dominates this track, and all singers around these days are up to some tough competition if they compare their songs to Alka's singing in this track. Its amazing how she graces the track, and it makes me feel that no one else could have done it better than her. Beautiful lyrics, beautiful music, beautiful singing.what else could you ask for?!

*Hai safar ye hamara naya naya,

kisi pal andhera jo ho gaya,

kahin kho na jaayein ye reh guzar,

mere paas aa mere paas aa,

humein saath chalna hai umr bhar.*

O Rey Chori - Lagaan

-

I think Alka Yagnik sounds beautiful in this track! She manages to fit in with the melody and flow with it better than any other singer in this generation so far. She gives dignity and lifts the simple lyrics and tune of this song. She and Udit Narayan sing well in this track and the lyrics and music! 10/10!

*O rey chorre, dil se nikle,

bol more. Maine pyar tujhi se hai

kiya, maine tujko hi maana hai piya,

tune thaama aaj ye aanchal hai,

man mein ek hulchul hai,

mai na bhulungi, ye woh pal hai,

O Sawariya.*
