Intensive Research Conclusion !!!

Though the success of serials is mainly determined by their TRP’s or the awards they collect, I have my own opinion of the five best serials of they year.

1.) Astitva - A highly mature story, it is my mum’s favourite, for it analyses the positive as well as negative traits in a woman’s character. Dr. Simran is truly a source of inspiration, not because she’s not a Saas-Bahu type, but because she’s not a superwoman who always does the right thing. Rather she sometimes makes mistakes, realizes them and does her best to correct them. Practical and self- controlled, she’s really a winner. The story is so real and touching, it can happen to anybody. Besides, it has a great director and a fixed storyline.

Caution- It’s taking a 20 years leap soon, and therefore may lose a lot of viewers, if it does not retain interest with a succeeding storyline.

2.) Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin - It’s worth an occasional watch, once in a week, just to keep in line with the story. Great presentation, great story, great ugly looks, and a great suspense keeps on grabbing you to return.

Caution- The TRP’s are slowly dripping as Jassi drags a lot these days. However, with the recent ‘twist in the tail’ as Jassi seeks revenge, and her soon to come makeover could set things right. Watch out for the real Mona Singh!

3.) Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai - The serial’s just started in November this year, but has won many hearts with it’s subtle comedy. Featuring a high class family with a middle class daughter-in-law and a sandwitched henpecked husband, it is very convincing and innovative. Written by J.D. Majethia(‘Khichadi’ fame), it is on its way to become a winner soon.

4.) Kahiin To Hoga - It’s a revival of the Mills and Boons story, very filmi, and with a lot of family masala. The story essentially revolves around the love triangle, with the rest of the cast as supporting. As such, in one episode, there’s not much of a useless crowd. It’s very youth-centric, and yet not out of hand. The story never deviates from its main track, and the principal characters are well sketched.

Caution- It’s too slow, and new faces are increasing. Thankfully, Rajeev Khandelwal has been called back by Ekta herself for the serial, and the further story will not be absurd. But a drawback is the timing- 11 at night is too late for many. So if you watch the serial for the story, watch it on Thursday only, if you watch it for the hero, watch the last ten minutes only of each episode, and if you like the whole of it and the heroine, you have no option but to watch the whole week episodes.

5.) Kyunki Saas Bhi… - You may be surprised, but I have my own reasons for the choice. When you compare it with the other serials of Ekta, it is definitely above all. Tulsi’s character continues to be the best any actress on TV has ever played. Although its too preachy at times, you are so addicted to the serial, you cannot but miss it. And above all, it is the serial which has been running for four years and a half now with high TRP’s.

Caution- A 20 year leap is scheduled once more, of which I suppose people have now grown tired. Besides, people are breaking away from it for some other stuff, but they just cannot get tired of Tulsi, especially the womenfolk. I recommend that the serial should now wind up.

  • These are solely my own opinions about the serials, keeping in account their social effect and affinity, TRP’s, awards, critic appreciation, and people’s interest. Anyone who challenges them, is welcome to comment in the comments section.
