LOL nights. Review on Five Best Serials of the Year

While most of the Hindi channels have almost the same stories

repackaged slightly differently with the obvious difference of

the cast - they still don't make up for entertainment.

The soaps more than often depict lives of normal people. Hey

there is enough stress in life already - there ain't no need

to watch it on television as well.

So the English channels especially Star World and Zee English

are quite a relief.

Star World has its Monday comedies which make up for the entire

week.

But in recent times, Zee English seems to have made a mark

of its own with a lol band that features two hours of comedy

every day every five days a week.

The shows in the slot include Sienfeld, Fresh Prince of Bel Air,

Suddenly Susan and Mad About You.

Sienfeld has four main protagonists including Jerry Sienfeld - a stand-up

comedian. And his friends - George, Kramer and his ex-girlfriend.

To put in the best way possible as they say in the show itself

• it is a show about nothing. The topics or the situations raised

in the show are from everyday life. But they have a lighter

side to it. The best part of the show are the opening and

ending anecdotes - which show Jerry addressing his audience to his

stand-up comic act.

Fresh Prince of Bel Air stars the engaging Will Smith. Will moves into

his aunt's house because he has landed in trouble in his

own home-town. Coming from a small house in Philadelphia

the show is about him adjusting to his aunt's big mansion and

lifestyle in Bel Air.

The characters of the show are Will's Aunt, Uncle and their

three kids and not to forget their butler.

The main highlight however being Will Smith who is at his comic best.

Suddenly Susan's star is Brooke Sheilds. She plays a journalist and

the show revolves around her personal and professional life. The

characters in this serial are quite the proto-type. Her best friend

is a blonde who is quite sleazy. Her boss has an off-and-on crush on

her. The most admirable character on the show, however, is Susan's

grandmother, Nanna.

Mad About You is a new series starring Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt. A

newly married couple and their day-to-day endeavors at making life

perfect is what the show is all about.

The one-liners are quite catchy. For instance, 'How can I improve unless

you tell me how to!' 'I take your crap and you take mine - that is what

marriage is all about!'

The on-screen chemistry between the lead actors is an added asset to the

show.
