Brilliant comets

All this brouhaha and uproar on the best and worst reviewers proved to be very infectious and coaxed me to write my two bit on the best reviewers on this website.

I am sure that I will never write on the ‘Worst reviewers’ since it is not in me to be so unkind to anyone, even in the name of'objective criticism'. Something dies inside me when I speak or write unkind things about any specific person.

In choosing the best reviewers, I have only concentrated objectively on the following points:

  1. The ability to come up with good reviews consistently

(no flashes in the pan)

  1. The ability to elicit a positive response from most of the readers  (can’t win them all)

  2. The command over English language  (since the reviews are in English and who likes reading poor language?)

  3. The ability to  reinvent themselves and experimentwith various writing styles

  4. The courage to be different and original.

This is not an attempt to be discriminatory but just giving some wonderful reviewers their due and also a chance to remind us to learn from these scintillating comets.

I found only four writers who are worthy of this mantle, the fifth may be still in the making.

The fifth could even be you.

So here goes my list(in no particular order):

-

Premjit

The undisputed choice. The uncrowned king of Mouthshut. It does not matter whether he writes anymore or not. It does not matter if he is an active member or not. I am sure if I had written this review two years after he had penned his last, I would still think of him for this review. A great sense of humor, super wit which can burn. He has a Midas touch – He can write on almost anything and it would shine like gold. Not only does he write the best possible, he also formats each of his reviews very well. Going through all his reviews is an enriching experience and should be the training school for all review writers on this web site.

Give Raj a topic to write on and see him perform. He is a magician, a conjuror who can dazzle you with the reams and reams of spectacular ideas that he wraps around you. Though the general idea is that he writes ‘humorous’ reviews, I feel that’s not giving him his rightful due. He shows enormous depth in his viewpoints. His reviews are accurate and articulate and he sometimes shows a very sentimental and soulful side which is a delight to read. He is also a MS member who conducts himself with a lot of maturity and grace. Luckily for me, he is a good friend of mine and I often tell him that despite his young years, I have a lot to learn from him.

You never know what Amol will come up with next. He is unpredictable, gifted and exceptionally talented. He has tried his hand at many approaches and to my delight, succeeded every time. Humorous, serious, soulful, romantic, poetic, frivolous and somber. But always brilliant.  Amol is amazingly intelligent and that is what sometimes works against him since many times people do not understand his ideas which are far ahead of our times and then go after his life. But keep going, Amol. Don’t change, ever.

She is bundle of talent, fun and honesty. Such a combination is very hard to resist. Every review of hers shines like a star and is always very interesting to read. She is able to merge information with creativity effortlessly, which in my opinion is what only a very gifted writer can manage. Her positive approach towards life is infectious and one feels oddly refreshed after reading her any of her reviews.

Well, what about the rest of us? I guess, we can learn from these maestros and hope that one day, we can also come up to their caliber.

Of course, true talent cannot be cultivated. It comes from within. Yet, I am sure that if we have even a seed of talent and if we nurture it withcare and encouragement, and avoid the pitfalls of negativity and hurtful intent, we can make it.
