Nowadays, whenever we talk of Indi-pop, we always get an image of old songs rehashed and packaged into a newer version, with semi-clad models dancing to the tunes. But, even in this age of remixes, there are a few artists who believe in originality.Shaan and Falguni Pathak, to name a few, are some of the artists who stick to their own style, but, deliver good, melodious songs. I would like to list out a few of my favourite music albums, which, I think were original and wonderful.

Tanha dil, tanha safar.

Tanha dil, tanha safar.

Dhoonde tujhe, phir kyon nazar.

Tanha dil.

Who can ever forget this wonderful song by Shaan. Taken from the album Tanha dil, the lyrics of this song, the music, and the visuals in the video gel so well. Even if you hear a hundred times, you will never get bored of it. I consider it to be one of the best works of shaan.

Jaanam samjha karo.

Raat shabnami, bheegi chaandni.

Teesra koyi, door tak nahi.

Isse aage hum, aur kya kahein.

Jaanam samjha karo.

I am not talking about the movie song. I am referring to Asha Bhonsle's first ever indi-pop song, taken from a music album by the same name. The sweet and mushy ambience of the song, and Asha's sweet voice, make this a very good number to hear.

Gori teri Aankhen kahein.

Gori teri aankhen kahein.

Ke raat bhar soye na yein.

Chanda dekhe chupke kahin.

Aur taare jaanthe hai sabhi.

It's one of my favourite songs. I didn't like the way the album was picturised, but, the voice of Lucky Ali and Kavitha krishnamoorthy(quite an unlikely combination) just kind of haunts you as you hear it.

Yaad piya ke aane lagi.

Yaad piya ke aane lagi.

Hai bheegi bheegi raaton me.

This was the song which captulated Falguni Pathak to the heights of fame and popularity. This peppy number, went on to make the gujrathi folk beats famous all over the country. It was one of the best and popular songs of that year.

Aankhon me, thera hi chehra.

Aankhon me tera hi chehra.

Dhadkan me teri hi yaadein.

karthi hai, deewana.

I don't think there can be anyone who doesn't like this number. It brings out the emotions of a teenage guy, and the'first love' principle! Taken from the album 'Aankhon me' by Aryans, it has lyrics by Jai walia and stars Shahid Kapoor and Hrishitaa Bhatt. The song, the lyrics, picturisation, the characters, everyone seems just perfect, making this song a delight to watch.

Mujhe pyaar hai tumse.

Mujhe pyaar hai tumse.

Ke jab bhi koi.

Aahat hui toh lage.

Ke tum aaye.

The title song of the album with the same name, this song stands out because of it's music and picturisation. Set up in a photo studio, this song portrays the various moods of a girl, who cheerfully comes to the  studio and keeps waiting for someone for a long time, becomes depressed and  finally smiles as she gets her pic taken along with the cameraman himself.

Khoya khoya chaand rehtha hai.

Khoya khoya chaand rehta hai.

Aasman ke paar.

Khoye khoye hum bhi rehte hai.

Is jahaan ke paar.

Taken from the album Khoya khoya chaand by Babul Supriyo starring Diya Mirza.Though there is nothing great about this song, it is soft and sweet on the ears and would make an ideal song for your beloved.

Deewana, main hoon deewana tera.

Deewana tera.

Tujhe hi bulaaye.

Yeh marzi teri.

Tu aaye na aaye.

Taken from Sonu nigam's super hit album 'Deewana', this is one song which can bring out the romantic in anyone. All the songs from this album are good, this one is the best. Sonu nigam is one singer who can bring out any type of emotion in his songs, with an unmatched intensity. I think, he is yet to get his due share of fame.

Saare sapnein kahin kho gaye.

Saare sapne kahin kho gaye.

Hai hum kya se kya ho gaye.

Taken from Alka yaagnik's'Tum Yaad Aaye', this is one of the best sad-songs I've heard. The number, as such is a little depressing one, about a girl lamenting about her shattered dreams, but, the song has some very good lyrics by Javed Akhtar and wonderful music too. The picturisation of the song is also really good.

Aur ahista keejiye baatein.

  • Aur aahistha keejiye baatein.

Dhadkanein koyi sun raha hoga.

Lafz gir na paaye honton se.

It's one of my all time favourite songs. I always had this feeling that Pankaj Udhaas is just good at Ghazals, and I just couldn't bring myself to like the slow, depressing numbers, so, I usually kept away from his songs. But, this one was such a lovely number, that I have become a huge fan of his. This romantic song, from the album is one of the most beautifully picturised music videos of the recent times, starring the then beautiful Sameera reddy(God knows what came over her that she decided to become an item girl in the movies).

These were my personal favourites. Your list may be different. Do let me know whether u liked my list or not, and what all albums you enjoy listening to. All criticisms are welcome.
