Science fiction is my favorite movie genre. it depicts story of human imagination technological advancement and things beyond imagination. so here are my favorite sci fi movies.i didn't include star wars because its more of space opera than scifi.
Recommendation - two Japanese scifi animation movies akira and ghost in shell
1-blade runner- this 1982 movie directed by ridley scott based on the novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick. is in my opinion best sci fi movie of all time.The film depicts harrison ford as a blade runner who hunts down replicates(human looking robots).
2-brazil-this 1985 film directed by terry gilliam stars johnathan price and robert de nero. the story depicts a consumer driven dystopian society where a man who had is frustrated with his job and life tries to find a woman who appears in his dreams.the direction is excellent the visuals are terrific and acting is top notch.
3- 2001 a space odyssey- this 1969 film directed by stanely kubrick depicts the story of human evolution and its advancement. the film is filmed beautiful with some of the best visual effects that are hand made. the film is very long and with very little dialogue so some people may find it boring. the character of hal 9000 is the best one.use of classical music is also very good.
4-a clock work orange-this 1971 film based on novella of same name about dystopian london depicts the story of a teenager Alex and his gang of friends who commits heinous crimes .the film is very graphic including a rape scene so some viewer may find it disturbing.the use of classical music is very good specially Beethoven symphony 9 which play a important role in movie.
5-aliens-this 1979 horror sci fi film direct by ridley scoot depicts the story of a space crew stuck in a space ship with a alien. the film is a interesting mix of sci fi horror and bit of action which works wonderfully.
