Its My Choice - Best Actresses of English Movie. Review on Five Best Hollywood Actresses

It was an even more difficult task to choose the best actressess of English Movies because, just like hindi movies, there are not many english movies made where the actress get an author backed role. However here is my list.

Meg Ryan and Julia Roberts

Very difficult to choose who is the better of the two actress because both are very beautiful talented and most loved women on and off screen.

Meg Ryan

The Most loved actress on and off screen. She started her career studying ti be a journalist from the New York Univeristy. She made her debut in Rich and famous (1981). She got a supporting role in Top Gun (1986) which got her recognition. It was the lead role in, When Harry Met Sally (1989) and the restaurant scene which got her super stardom. The movie was a huge box office hit and billy cystal and herself became Hollywood's most loved on screen couple, a postion which was much later taken over by Tom Hanks. She starred with Dennis Quais in Innerspace (1987) and DOA (1988). Later she marreied him on valentine's day in 1991. She divorced him in 2001 after a love affair with Russel Crowe on The sets of Proof of life which waas short lived. She is one actress who gives such good performances that anyone would want to give her a big hug and kiss her. Her best performances have been in When Harry Met Sally, French Kis, Sleepless in seattle and You Got Mail.

Julia Roberts

Another most loved actress on and off screen. She was a wannabe veterinarian who studied Journalism. She started her career in Mystic pizza (1988). It was her role as a hooker in Pretty Woman (1990) which got her super stardom. The movie was a very big hit and it got her typecasted almost forever in Romantic comedy movies. Though she did star in Movies like Micheal Collins (1996) but it was her dynamic role in Erin Brokovich (2000) which not only broke her image as a romantic comedy actress but she also git her first oscar for the best actress. Julia Roberts has also become involved with UNICEF charities and has made visits to many different countries, including Haiti and India as a goodwill ambassador. Her best performances have been in Pretty Woman, Erin Brokovich, Step Mom and America's Sweethearts.

Meryl Streep

Many consider Meryl Streep as one of the most greatest living actress around. She studeid drama in the prestigious yale's school of drama. She has been nominated for the Academy Award an astonishing 12 times(a record held by katherine Hepburn), and has won it twice. One for Kramer Vs Kramer (1978) and one for Sophie's choice (1982). She got success in her first film role in Julia (1977). She got instant super stardom for her role in Kramer Vs Kramer (1978) opposite dustin hoffman. Like Dustin Hoffman many consider Meryl Streep to be a perfectionist. She even studied the violin for 6 hours everyday for her role in Music Of the heart. She got an oscar nomination for that wand would have been a winner had it not been for the dynamic performance by Hillary Swank in Boys don't Cry.

Her best performances have been in Kramer Vs Kramer, The French Lieutenant's Woman, Sophie's Choice and The Deer Hunter.

Audrey Hepburn

OPossibly the most beautiful actress of English Movies. She was born to very wealthy parents in Brussels, Belgium. After her parents divorced she moved with her mother to Netherlands. After Adolf Hitler's army took over Netherkands she suffered from major depression. She moved to london in 1945 after WW-2 and studied ballet. She also had a stint in modelling and was very successful in it. Her first film was the low budget, Young Wives Tale (1951). It was her role as a runawy princess in Roman Holiday(1953) which got her superstardom. The film was a huge hit and she got the oscar for the best actress. Later she starred in superb autor back roles in Sabrina, Breakfast at Tiffany's and her much talked about and most loved role as Eliza Doliitle in My Fair Lady. In 1988, Audrey became a special ambassador to the United Nations UNICEF fund helping children in Latin America and Africa, a position she held till her death in Tolochnaz, Switzerland in 1993. Her last starring role was in Steven Spielberg's Always (1989). She was the first actress to come under the pay bracket of 1 million dollars. She got 1.1 million dollars for her ole in My Fair lady.

Julie Andrews

The most respected actress in Hollywood. It was discovered when she was a child that she had a lovely singing voice. Her mother and stepfather, both stage performers, immediately got her into a singing career. She starred in the play version of Cinderella in London. She moved to broadway with her role in The Boy Friend. That got her instant recognition. She also starred in the play version of My Fair Lady. Her first movie was the super hit musical, Mary poppins (1964). She got the best actress award for that movie. After her role in The Sound Of Music (1965), which still is one of the top 10 highest money grossing movies of all time, she got typecated in Musicals as as inging star. Her good performances in dramatic roles in The Americanization of Emily (1964), and Alfred Hitchcock's thriller Torn Curtain (1966) couldnt get her out of that image. After a series of box office failures like Modern Millie (1967), Star(1968), and Darling Lilli (1970) she made a comeback in Husband Blake Edwards, 10(1979). She also got an oscar nomination for her role in Victo/Victoria (1982). In 1995, she returned to Broadway to star in the musical version of Victor/Victori and was again a smash hit. Sadly, an operation on her vocal chords left her singing voice badly damaged in 1998.

Hillary Swank

Many may not accept my choice of Hillwary Swank as one of the best actress but mark my words, She is going to give all the current actress a big run for their money. She first starred in the box office dud, Buffy The Vampire Slayer in 1992. It was her role as Brandon Teena in Boy's Dont cry (1999) that got her instant Stardom and also the oscar award for the best actress. Boy's dont cry is the true story of story the life of Teena Brandon, a transgender youth who preferred life in her male identity as Brandon Teena. Hilary Swank won the lead role of Brandon/Teena in Boys don't Cry after hundreds of other actresses had been considered and rejected over the course of 3 three years by the director Kimbely Pierce. She cut off all of her hair and lived as a boy for 1 month to prepare her for her role as Teena Brandon in Boys Don't Cry. Her role is the most difficult role ever played by any actress in the 2oth century and it is possibly the best performance by an actress for any English movie made in the 20th century.
