FIve leading men
Feb 02, 2013 12:15 PM 3432 Views

Ah so many reviews on this topic already but Hollywood has so many talented leading men over the years that I think no two persons would have made the same choices.I think 5 is too small a number  as well and it's a difficult task picking just 5.In the end all my 5 choices might be debated as being too conventional and mainstream but in my book there's no denying their charm, popularity and their talent.

Also I am a bit biased towards the younger crop of actors since I am watching them on the big screen and relate to their roles and their movies more than actors from generations gone by.

Ok so here we go in no order my five favorite actors are:

1.Ryan Gosling

This young actor has a knack of picking good scripts, has a screen presence and ask the girls they will confirm he looks dreamy. If you look at his body of work he has dabbled in diverse genres like comedy, romance, crime, drama and has picked up an Oscar nomination and golden globes nominations on the way regularly for his work.

Check out his filmography on IMDB and you will find that all his movies have been well received.

I like him in The Notebook, Crazy Stupid Love, Ides of March.

2.Leonardo Di Caprio

No arguments on this name I guess.Undoubtedly one of the most talented leading man of Hollywood over the last 15 years. I guess if Martin Scorsese thinks he is as good as Robert Di Niro there must be something in this guy.

Immensely likable on screen Leonardo has not only worked in big blockbusters like Titanic, Catch me if you can, Inception but also done smaller performance oriented movies like J Edgar, Aviator. Recently he has worked with only the best directors like Scorsese, Christopher Nolan, Tarrantino. From Titanic to Django, this guy has come a long way.

3.Tom Hanks

Of late he has done Cloud Atlas and The Da Vinci franchise which one might argue was preposterous but there are not many who have won the best actor twice and that too in consecutive years. Some of my favorite all time movies have Hanks as the leading man .

Forrest Gump, Apollo 13, The Green MIle, Big, Philadelphia, Cast Away. Enough said.

4.Javier Bardem

Ok I am impartial to him but mainly because he was such a delight and the best part about Skyfall. After Heath Ledger's Joker here was a villain who made the viewers forget it was a superhero or in this case James Bond who was supposed to be the main draw.

But there's more to him than just Skyfall. He was simply brilliant in No Country for Old Men and Vicky Christina Barcelona as well.He just plays this complex characters with so much ease that it's a delight watching him.I haven't explored much of his Spanish movies but saw one of his earlier movies and he was damn good.

5.Robert Di Niro

Again no room for argument here.Right from 1970's to till now, be it villainous or positive, comedic or supporting this guy has done it all. Worked with the best directors, although Scorsese and Di Niro together are sheer magic won all the awards, seen it all and still featuring in acclaimed movies like Silver Linings Playbook.

Everyone has loved him in Godafther, Raging Bull, Goodfellas and Taxi Driver but in the later half of his career he has done gems like Tarrantinos Jackie Brown.Supporting part but boy what a killer performance.

Five more who missed the list by not much.

Tom Cruise:Earlier did movies like Born on 4th of July which was a very complex role and he was fabulous in it.Then he did Jerry Mcguire but of late he has become a slave to the box office

Matt Damon.I just love watching him on screen be it the borne and the ocean trilogy or the darker movies he does like Departed, good shephard and all.

Morgan Freeman:In my view the most versatile actor who is instantly likable in all his roles.Be it Mandela in Invictus or the God in the Almighty movies. And yes, the best part about Shawshank Redemption. Johnny Depp: Think eccentric, think Depp.

If there's someone who can play the eccentric character to perfection it's this man.Should be mentioned just for playing Jack Sparrow in the Pirates series but has a memorable body of work which includes Blow and a lot of Tim Burton classics.

Kevin Spacey: Deadly in The Usual Suspects, Scary in Se7en, Moronic in American Beauty, Evil in Horrible Bosses and immensely spectacular in all of them , I just love watching him on screen.
