The actor makes a great film better.

Criteria: Believable and Memorable Character Portrayal, Easy on the Eyes, Ability to Create and Manage Screen Repertoire with Leading Lady, Currently Acting.

  1. Jim Caveziel: Probably the best looking actor that nobody talks about; urban, gritty good guy next door, forever barring him ever acting with Sandra Bullock. That would just be too much wholesome goodness in one film. First noticed in the quintessential war movie The Thin Red Line. Played a philosophical soldier that gives the human side of a soldier that never dies. Stole the screen away from Sean Penn and never gave it back. Frequency Jim gets a little closer to being a leading man but he shares the lead with Dennis Quaid. Didn't love the fake Irish New Yorker(new yawka) accent, but they both pulled it off anyway. Sticks with grittiness by portraying a cop. I would write a recommendation to watch this movie, but I'm telling you here instead that I enjoyed and recommend you give it a try including the rest of the movies mentioned. About the same year as Frequency is released, we are given Angel Eyes. I'm not the biggest Jennifer Lopez fan, but she is talented dramatically, comedically and musically and she proves the first two in the movie. Again, Jim plays a dark(literally with his wardrobe) character whose past is a mystery. Lopez plays a cop, they fall in love, ensuing hoopla with Lopez finding out whose the guy she loves and what he's hiding. The suspense, the drama, blah blah blah. Not the best, certainly not the worst.

  2. Dennis Quaid: Early 90s Golden Boy makes a comeback after wife Meg Ryan leaves him. It's not a pretty headline, but it's honest. Quaid made big with Inner Space costarring with then soon to be wife Ryan and Martin Short. Picture a tan quarterback that's an all around nice guy that would help you anyway, … Quaid's that guy. He remained dormant during the mid and late 90s; if he was in any movie, it wasn't anything remarkable or noticeable. Then the gates of Hollywood heaven opened and psycho director Oliver Stone gave Quaid the role of the first string quarterback supreme that gets injured in Any Given Sunday. This movie has an all star cast of Quaid, Cameron Diaz, Al Pacino, and features Jamie Foxx. Ever wonder what a mean Cameron Diaz looks like? Watch this movie then. Very dramactic with plenty of assertive speaking, fist pounding, garbage can kicking emotion. Gives me an ulcer just thinking about it. As mentioned before, Quaid costars in Frequency with Jim Caveziel and frankly he did a great job. Quaid is the perfect husband, father, good guy you want on your side in this movie and the weirdness of his thick as maple syrup Irish New Yorker accents fades after the first 10 minutes you see him onscreen. Take away any action and Quaid is still a great actor as proven by HBO movie Dinner with Friends. Meant to be an ensemble cast of Quaid, Andie MacDowell, Greg Kinear, and Toni Collette, Quaid steals the show along with MacDowell on his coattails. This movie proved that Quaid is back.

  3. Edward Norton: Want to see an actor transform into his character? Watch American History X, Fight Club, Keeping the Faith to the metamorphosis a one man from a meathead skinhead to a cubicle guy that can kick the crap out of somebody and then be their friend to a Catholic Priest that falls for the girl that used to live next door. Great actor that probably lives by method acting. Whatever works for him. Just a warning the first two movies are incredibly violent but probably some of the best films I've ever seen.

  4. Ethan Hawke: Here is a grunge guy if ever there was one. Incredibly handsome and talented. Best roles in mainstream cinema: Reality Bites, Gattaca, Hamlet- the first being the role he's best known for uber hip without even trying. Pulls off a sci fi flick Gattaca without batting an eye, he makes the impossible look easy. Also in this movie is his extremely beautiful wife Uma Thurman. Has the ability to play a modern Hamlet and not screw up but excel at bringing the Shakespearian script alive in a modern setting. Hamlet has an all star cast that may be not the biggest names in Hollywood, but are actors that can hold their own and let their talent speak for itself.

  5. Bill Murray: Ok he's not the best looking guy I've ever seen, but spanning about 3 decades, Murray is one of my favorite actors. Remembered for being the straight goofball in countless movies, Murray has recently started to be noticed in high brow cult followed movies and dramas such as Rushmore and Hamlet. Wait, I saw that double take: Murray was in Hamlet. In fact he plays Polonius, Ophelia's father that ends her relationship with Hamlet. By the way, Julia Stiles did a great job as Ophelia and was not a teenybopper that ruined the entire film.

Love'em or leave'em.
