Hi friends,
Just went through this topic floating in MS. Five best ghazals of Jagjit Singh.
Well, before I get straight to the topic, something about the legendary ghazal singer.
Ghazals, though originated in India and always cherished by the elite, the common man has almost been untouched by the wonderful genre of music and poetry.
jagjit Singh, can rightly be credited for presentation of ghazals in the most simple yet most soulful manner so as to let the common man understand and appreciate.
Not to mention, the tragedy he has gone through in his personal life, he has always been an accomplished artist and an unconventional voice has been an added advantage.
Well friends, choosing five of his many masterpieces would be a difficult task on hand, but I am presenting my best 5.
- Hazaaron Khwahishen Aisi:
The immortal work by Ghalib has been performed to perfection by Jagjit Singh(composed and sung). The extraordinary poetry coupled with a melodious tune and a soothing voice makes this my no. 1.
- Kal choudhavi ki raat thi:
The reason why this track features as my no. 2 is because the tune and the poetry has a very youthful feel to it. Ibne Insha's poetry makes you visualize a young poet singing in order to express his admiration for his love interest. jagjit's voice makes the overall experience a notch above the ordinary.
- tere khat:
Though technically, tere khat is not a ghazal, but the feel of the song is soothing nevertheless. Written by Rahbar, the nazm is extremely rich in lyrical value and doesn't fail to remind you of all the love letters you have written or were written to you. Full marks to Jagjit Singh for the composition and rendition.
- Sarakti jaye hai:
What to say about this ghazal. Amazing, thats how I can describe it. The way jagjit singh has rendered this ghazal, it it just incredible. "Ameer " the poet could have never imagined that his poetry though great can be this melodious as well.
- Gulshan ki faqat:
Well friends, I really dont remember the poet's name at this moment. but this ghazal cannot miss the best of best list. Listen to it to believe it. Its philosohical, its about life, its about love and its about jagjit singh. Great work Jagjit saab.
Well friends, there r other great works too e.g. baat nikelgi, chaand ke saath, shaam se aankh, aankhon mein jal, kabhi yun bhi to ho, main bhool jaun, and many many more.
