So you have a tattered, battered, broken, shattered, smashed, darned, doused, dislocated, duped, and dumped heart.
And you DON’T want to get over it and get ahead in life. What you really want to do is be morbidly absorbed in the disorienting thoughts of your lost love, wallow in self pity, and wail, “Oh, woe is me!”
Actually, nothing wrong with that(in fact it’s cathartic, cleansing and clarifying). I have handpicked my very personal favorite love songs for broken hearts, which want to remain that way. To melancholically mull over with your grieving heart and intentionally make it feel worse.
None of these are your skippy-happy love songs, to smell fresh roses with. Whenever I’m in a mood of listening to love songs(and that’s very rare), they have got to be woebegone numbers, which make you want to run away from the world into the confines of your bathroom and cry a few private moments.
So go ahead and weep some more my loves, as I enlist(not complete lines nor in sequence but heartbreaking snatches and words from each) ten in all, in no particular order.(sorry couldnt confine myself to 5)

1. Ordinary World: Duran Duran
========================================================
Passion or coincidence once prompted you to say, pride will tear us both apart
Well now pride's gone out the window, across the rooftops, runaway
Left me in the vacuum of my heart
What is happening to me - crazy some will say, where is my friend when I need you most
And I won't cry for yesterday - there's an ordinary world somehow I have to find
I guess Duran Duran must have surprised everyone with this superb number. Refreshingly meaningful lyrics catapult it straight to my fav list.

2. With or without you U2
========================================================
Sleight of hand and twist of fate
On a bed of nails she makes me wait
And I wait.without you
With or without you
Such words when rendered by Bono’s baritone - the result is a sense of déjà vu
========================================================
3. Nothing compares to you- Sinnead o Connor
========================================================
This has words for a pining heart finding nothing worthwhile in the lover’s absence. This song categorically defeats everything you may do to get over your lost love(like going to a fancy restaurant, doing as you please, seeing whomever you choose), as all are to no avail as nothing compares to you.
It's been so alone without you here
Like a birdy without a song
Nothing can stop these lonely tears from falling
Tell me baby where did I go wrong?
========================================================
4. Unbreak my heart- Toni Braxton
========================================================
Take back that sad word'goodbye'/ Bring back the joy to my life
Don't leave me here with these tears/Come and kiss this pain away/
Life is so cruel without you beside me /
Unbreak my heart, say you love me again undo this hurt. uncry these tears
Her deep husky voice has always been a turn on. Perfect for a mellow evening, or may I add. during the act?
========================================================
5. Don't Speak- No Doubt
========================================================
I know just what you're saying
So please stop explaining
Don't tell me cause it hurts
Don't speak
I know what you're thinking
I don't need your reasons
Don't tell me cause it hurts
No Doubt came up with this one when the band was on the verge of a break up, n Gwen Stefani has always been my favourite.
========================================================
6. Kissing a fool- George Micheal
========================================================
fooled me with the tears in your eyes
covered me with kisses and lies
so bye
but please don't take my heart
strange that I was wrong enough
to think you'd love me too
I guess you were kissing a fool
uff. this one is brutally qatilaana(murderous).
========================================================
7. Crying in the rain – A-HA
========================================================
If I wait for cloudy skies
You won't know the rain from the tears in my eyes
You'll never know That I still love you so
Though the heartaches remain
I'll do my crying in the rain
Gives one more hiding place for men to go and cry in, the rain. This was originally rendered by The Everly brothers.

8. How am I supposed to live without u? Micheal Bolton
========================================================
I didn't come here for cryin'
Didn't come here to breakdown
It's just a dream of mine is coming to an end
How am I supposed to live without you
How am I supposed to carry on
When all that I've been livin' for is gone
Majorly soppy and very heartbreaky
=======================================================
9. Ain't No Sunshine(When She's Gone): Bill Withers
========================================================
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
It's not warm when she's away
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
And she's gone much too long
Any time she goes away
A part of the Notting Hill Soundtrack, a must for pining lovers. Notting Hill is a must have, to play during make-outs.
========================================================
10. Even Now - Barry Manilow
========================================================
Even now when I never hear your name
And the world has changed so much since you’ve been gone
Even now I still remember
And the feeling’s still the same
And this pain inside of me goes on and on
I could write the whole song here as every line is great. This one is my personal favourite, its such a pathetically not giving up on someone song, very soulfully rendered.
