I'm sorry I couldn't just pick 5 so here are MY TEN FAVORITE SONGS:

1) ALWAYS sung by Patsy Cline. I also like CRAZY by her but I only could pick one. Many people have recorded this song but they don't sing it to the right beat. Patsy Cline was born in 1932 in Winchester, Virginia. She became famous when she won the contest on an old TV Show called'The Arthur Godfrey Talent Contest'. From there she became the number 1 Female Country & Western Singer at the Grand Ole Opry. She died in an airplane crash in 1963, (much to young when she was 31 years old).

'I'm in love with you, always,

With a love that's true, always,

Not for just an hour, not for just a day, not for just a year,

But, always'

2) THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES by Bob Hope. Bob Hope was the emcee for the USO Shows, (that brought Stars to the battlefront), that began during WW II and up to a few years ago. He also had a TV Show and this was his theme song.

'Thanks for the memory of rainy afternoons, swingy Harlem tunes,

And motor trips and burning lips and burning toast and prunes,

How lovely it was!

Thanks for the memory of candlelight and wine,

Castles on the Rhine,

The Parthenon and moments on the Hudson River Line

How lovely it was!'

3) EMBRACEABLE YOU was written by Ira and George Gershwin. Many singers have sung this song but I like the version by Judy Garland.

'Embrace me my sweet embraceable you,

Embrace me you irreplaceable you.

Just one look at you my heart grew tipsy in me,

You and you alone bring out the gypsy in me.

I love all the many charms about you,

Above all I want my arms about you.

Don't be naughty baby come to papa - come to papa - do!

My sweet embraceable you.'

4) SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW is a song from the Wizard of Oz. I love the way that Willie Nelson sings it.

'Somewhere over the rainbow Way up high

The dreams that you dreamed of once in a lullaby

Somewhere over the rainbow Blue birds fly’.

5) LET IT BE sung by the Beatles, (and'SO LO HE'/'LET IT BE' the song the Beatles allowed Israel to use as a song of peace). This is Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Year and she selected this song to use as her Celebration Song.

'When I find myself in times of trouble

Mother Mary comes to me

Speaking words of wisdom let it be

And in my hour of darkness

She is standing right in front of me

Speaking words of wisdom let it be

Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be

Whisper words of wisdom, let it be

And when the broken hearted people

Living in the world agree

There will be an answer, let it be

For though they may be parted there is

Still a chance that they will see

There will be an answer, let it be’.

6) Bing Crosby and Lois Armstrong singing PENNIES FROM HEAVEN. I like the thought of money raining down on us all!

'Ever time it rain it rains pennies from heaven

Don't you know each cloud contains

Pennies From Heaven

You'll find your fortune falling, all over town

Make sure that your umbrella, is upside down

Trade them for a package of sunshine and flowers

If you want the things you love

You must have showers

So when you hear it thunder

Don't run under a tree

There'll be Pennies from Heaven

For you and me

If you want the things you love

You must have showers

So when you hear it thunder

Don't run under a tree

There'll be Pennies from Heaven

For you and me'

7)'L'CHAIM' a song from the Musical'Fiddler on the Roof', (the Musical was inspired by a painting done my March Chagall) and sung by Topal, (an Israel Singer). L'Chaim means'to life in English. Tevye, (Topal), tries to make peace with the Russians who live in a Village near by. He goes to a tavern and in the end they all sing and dance to the song.

'To life, to life l'chaim

L'chaim, l'chaim means long life.'

They sing this over and over as a'toast'.

8) ALL OF ME by Frank Sinatra.

'All of me why not take all of me

Can't you see I'm no good  without you

Take my lips, I want to lose them

Take my  arms, I'll never use them

Your good-bye left me with eyes that cry

How can I get along without you

You took the part that once was my heart

So why not why not take all of me?'

9) GLOOMY SUNDAY sung by a jazz great called Billie Holiday. When it first was released it was banned because to many people committed suicide after they heard it. I'm only giving you one line, as I don't want anyone to do that to himself or herself:'Death is no dream, for in death I'm caressing you.'

10) I ONLY HAVE EYES FOR YOU than was written in 1934 for the movie, 'Dames'. Many people have sung this song but I like the Simon & Garfunel version.

'Are the stars out tonight?

I don't know if it's cloudy or bright

'Cause I only have eyes for you, dear

The moon may be high

But I can't see a thing in the sky

'Cause I only have eyes for you.

I don't know if we're in a garden or on a crowded avenue

You are here, so am I maybe millions of people go by

But they all disappear from vie and I only have eyes for you'

I hope you enjoyed reading about these songs.
