It is very difficult task to select top five cricketers as bowlers are always overcast by the batsman. A century is always more appreciated than five wickets haul. In many cases pitches are prepared to kill the potency of bowlers and batsman made merry. Considering all facts I have to select five great players.
Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar
By popular vote he is greatest batsman of the world today and is compared with Late Sir Donald Bradman. He never looked behind after his debut in the 1st test at Karachi in 1989/90.He is the first batsman to cross 10000 runs barrier in the world. He is holding the record of highest century (31) in one day international.Sachin has done 26 centuries in test cricket.He is the first player who has crossed 10000 run barriers in one day international. In test cricket in 84 match he has scored 6919 run with average of 57.18.After uninterrupted 84 test he missed Sri Lanka tour due to injury.
Braian Charles Lara
The chronic strain of right hamstring muscle forced Brian Lara to withdraw from taking part in West Indies’ Zimbabwe tour. The injury has been affecting Brian Lara, the left handed Trinidadian.
Brian Lara is the holder of scoring record both test match(375) and first class cricket(501).Statistic may not show correct picture of performance of a cricketer but meaning of statistic is that it separates a few from the rest. Brian Lara is a natural cricketer and he is among that ‘few’. He has the capacity to alter the equation of a match.
Brian Lara has returned with a big bang in Sri Lanka tour. He has made 688 runs in 3 test including a double century and two centuries. He has played 83 matches and made 7221 runs. He has made 18 centuries and 34 half centuries in his career and has magic average of 50.48.
Washim Akram
Before arrival in test arena Washim Akram was compared compared with legendary Australian pace bowler Alan Davidson... He has shown his brilliance as batsman when he made 257 run against Zimbabwe. He is the only bowler to capture more than 400 wickets both in test match(414) and one day international(446). He has a glorious record of Hat tricks in both form of game. He has played 103 test matches and made 2898 runs including 3 centuries and 7 half centuries. He is a great all rounder.
Alan Donald
Alan Donald is the main architect of South African bowling attack since his country’s return to the international cricket. He shared the man of the match with Sachin Tendulkar in his first test match against India at Eden Garden in 1991 capturing 5 wickets. He has bagged 325 wickets only in 69 tests. He is certainly the best bowler produced by South Africa.
Steve Waugh
Steve Waugh is the iron man of World Cricket. In The last World Cup Australian have got the title of Champion of One Day Cricket but recently not wining any competition they have got Test Champion Trophy awarded by ICC for their excellent performance in recent years. They have won continuous sixteen test matches and defeated all countries in their home soil and abroad . Steve Waugh’s team is compared with the post war Bradman’s team which is treated as one of the all time best team. He is not only an efficient captain, he is most dependable batsman of contemporary period. He has already made 9364 run in 142 matches . In his test career he has made 27 centuries and 43 half century. He is equally successful in one day international matches.He has played 317 one day international matches and made 7382 run . He has made 3 centuries and 44 half centuries and has captured 195 wickets in one day international.
