Name your top 5 anything and you'll get 100 arguments. One man's cricket idol is another man's not-much-better-than-average performer. No one will dispute the rights of legends like Sir Donald Bradman,Viv Richards,Alan Border,Sir Richard Hadlee,Sunil Gavaskar,Sir Garfield Sobers,Clive Loyde,David Gower,Imran Khan,Tony Greig,Kapil Dev,Ian Botham or Mohd Azharuddin to be included in my review. Perhaps two-thirds of those selected will earn their place in anybody's choice of the all time greats………..But not to be….These legends will however not feature in my review for one simple reason……… & that is…I never saw them play(except Azharuddin).

At the beginning of the last century, cricket was a simpler sport than it is today. At first South Africa,West Indies, India, England, Australia, Pakistan & New Zealand were the only test playing nations.West Indies with its fast bowling & some cunning captainship ruled the world cricket until India won the 1983 world cup.

Many great players of the past who did not play many matches would have no trouble breaking any world records today. But whats the use talking about them now.Ok,let me describe about my favorite 5 cricketers(not many of you will agree with me though).

1)Sachin Tendulkar: Sachin is just 28Yrs old & has already entered the record books with his incredible batting talent. The Indian’s love their cricket & they worship Sachin for his wonderful contribution to the game.He is a batsman who can also act as a useful part time bowler when needed by his team. I think his best innings was against South Africa where he score 101 & single-handedly won the match for India.

2)Andy Flower:We all say that the Indian team depend solely upon Sachin Tendulkar to win matches. But that’s not true.We have other great players like Saurav Ganguly,Rahul Dravid,Javagal Srinath & many others’ who can turn matches by their own performance.Andy Flower the Zimbabwean wicket-keeper is one player who has been consistently winning matches for his team. You wont find lots of big names in the Zimbabwe side, but this guy has the records which is even better than Saurav Ganguly,Saeed Anwar & Jayasurya. He is a true match winner.

3)Shane Warne: Arguably the best spinner of our time.He is the only spinner who can turn the ball on any surface. We should also not forget that he is a useful batsman & a very good slip fielder.Lately his actions off the field has caused lots of controversies but nevertheless he is the best among the current bread of spinners.

4)Steve Waugh:Regarded as the most reliable captain ever to play this remarkable game of cricket. The Australian team under his captainship has won 16 straight test matches. His batting off late has not been up to his class but every cricketer has to pass that phase & I guess he will over come all the difficulties & will once again lead the Australian side in the next world cup. With more than 27 test match hundereds & 44 half centuries he is truely one of the finest & the greatest player of our generation.

5)Chris Cairns:Apart from being a very good opening bowler,Cairns is an excellent fielder & an explosive middle-order batsman. He has earned the reputation of being the best all-rounder & a very good human being. Injurious has kept him on & off the field in recent time but I am sure he will make his way back in the New Zealand team & will definitely play in he next world cup.............
