I cannot understand the attraction to brand names. You pay so much money for a tiny label. I am quite sure if I bought a garment from the market for 50p and sewed on a brand label somebody would buy the garment for £50. If you look at most of the catwalk fashions today you find replicas of the clothes in the high street shops for a fraction of the cost and the quality is just as good.

Also what happened to individuality? Seeing someone dressed in their ‘own’ style is far more attractive then seeing a herd of sheep in CK and Ralph Lauren baseball caps and underpants.

What is sadder is that despite the fact many brand names charge high prices for their goods they exploit the workers who produce these goods as many are from third world countries such as India, China, Indonesia, they are expected to work long hours for a few pennies a day.  Mind you I'm not saying boycott these products as it could damage the livelihoods of workers.

So here are my top 5 tips to brands you got to have:

1)If your mum can stitch Indian suits then ask her to make you one because the ethnic look is in. She will stitch to fit your size and knows where to buy bargain priced material and shiny objects to give your suit that dazzle. Plus being your mum I am sure she won’t charge that much so you can use the money you saved to buy a pair of dangly earrings to match that dazzling suit.

2)Try Zara a Spanish owned shop. Clothes are replicas of catwalk fashions BUT for a tiny fraction of the price. They are manufactured in Spain(not third world countries so their distribution costs are low). You'll look like you just came off the catwalk!

3)A black dress. You can never go wrong with a smart, elegant and chic black dress. Plus dressing in black hides a multitude of sins such as big bottoms and extra tummies.

4)White trouser suits are so smart. Provided the suit wearer is female they ad a mixture of power, elegance and chic ness. Guys should try and avoid white trouser suits or they end up looking like John Travolta from Saturday Night fever or waiters from an Indian restaurant.

5)Wear what makes you feel comfortable. Wear what you like and not what fashion dictates from one day to the next.  If you feel good about what you wear I’m sure people will notice and perhaps they will try and emulate your style!
