Good, But Different

The Film Industry in India is going down, insiders argue thats because of widespread Piracy. But any person on roadside or a college student would really argue that point. Remember it was our college days when we went out for movies. What changed.

=> We have far less free-time with us.

=> Low Quality of Movies, in terms of Pre & Post Production.

=> Marketing Techniques.

=> Exorbitant Prices of Cinema Halls

In my ''Personal'' opinion all four of them, but the most important being the Quality of Films.

The year 2002 was another disappointing year for the Film Industry, with very few recovering the production costs. But then there was movies with difference, low budget, high quality, excellent plot and closer to heart movies fondly called the ''Indian Diaspora.'' These movies came and made us notice, Good movies do come, though occasionally and silently.

So my choices are rather different, but then these are my choices.

My Five Best Movies of 2002

Mitr

Fascinating, Simply fascinating. A complex relation of Indian mother with her ''phoren'' daughter is showcased with simplicity. Shobana gives us a sterling performance, and I dare say if she didn't win the award for Best Actress, then those awards are probably lobbied.

Mr. & Mrs Iyer

Because of its origin, and inherent impotency to give award to deserving, some award function gave the Director(Aparna Sen) an award in special category(Indian Diaspora) for such an emotionally punched Picture. Konkana Sensharma and Rahul Bose, shows the potential of new breed of Performers.

Encounter

Nerve Chilling Emotional Drama, of a Cop. Not many of you may have seen this movie, watch it for my sake :). Naseeruddin Shah shows his mettle as a Parsi Cop.

Company

Why this one ? Well, just for its Pre & Post Production Brilliance( Kaante was better). Though not to be watched with family , unless they are liberal. This movie should have shown the way for Commercial Films of future. And did any one miss the Screen Presence of Mohan lal. Vivek Oberai got a lot of awards, but short sighted people forgot about Ajay Devgan who held the Center stage.

The Legend Of Bhagat Singh

reavan's comment

Had the movie been released shortly after Bhagat Singh’s hanging, it would have easily galvanized the whole country and led to a renewed fight which could have resulted in us winning our freedom a good two decades earlier than what we did – that’s the ultimate tribute I can pay this movie

I couldn't have described it better.

So that's it. Thanks for your time.

Bye Bye 2002.
