Sorry all the Madhubala, Madhuri and Kajol fans. This review features only the current actresses. Criterion for selecting them have been acting, looks, the kind of movies they have done and the variety of roles they have played! It?s a slightly different kind of review.
The number one spot will go to the actress who is the best currently! But I haven?t given the other four spots to her close substitutes (those experienced actresses who are struggling to reach the top position). Instead I have given a chance to those young, talented upcoming actresses who have come into the Bollywood like a breath of fresh air and are contenders of taking the no.1 spot in future!
5. Rimi Sen
This Bengali babe became famous even before her first movie was released, thanks to that Coca Cola commercial in which she walks away from Aamir Khan after calling him bhaiya. Her first movie Hungama (which was a complete entertainer) churned lots of money at the box office and her acting in that film was appreciated by one and all! In her latest flick Dhoom she has looked amazingly glamorous and has proved those critics wrong who were saying that her looks of girl-next-door might not take her too far! Not many would know that she is also an excellent Odyssey dancer! Lets hope she doesn?t move away from this path, and goes on to become an actress, who will be remembered for ages to come!
4. Bhumika Chawla
Maybe the most innocent looking actress Bollywood has ever seen! She became the heartthrob of most of the youngsters thanks to her character of Nirjara in the debut movie Tere Naam (which proved to be a big hit). More than the character it was the subtle way in which she portrayed it is what earned her name and fame! Her next movie was Run and she looked terrific in it! Whatever, business that movie did, the credit should go to her! I haven?t yet seen Dil Ne Jise Apna Kaha, but some of my friends have and they were pretty impressed by her acting! Her increasing popularity can be seen by the fact, that I went to buy some Bollywood posters a couple of weeks back, and it were the posters of Bhumika which were in most demand! Her big lips (which may not go too well with some audiences) make her unique from others and add to her sex appeal! It?s my wish to see her on the number one spot soon! I hope she doesn?t disappoint me and many of her fans!
3. Antra Mali
Antra Mali ? daughter of the famous photographer Jagdish Mali has already seen some ups and downs in her short career. Her first two films proved to be disastrous. The debut movie was Dhoondte Reh Jaaoge and not even crows went to watch that flick! Her 2nd movie Dum Dum Diga Diga never completed! Then came in the Godfather ? Ram Gopal Verma, who gave life to her sinking career! Started with a short but sweet role in Mast. Proved her acting talent in Company (where she was second to Manisha Koirala). Then graduated to a heroine with Road. Gathered the appreciation of critics in Main Madhuri Dixit Banana Chahti Hoon (a role which was written just for Antra). Also a part of the unorthodox movie Darna Mana Hai! Her latest flick Gayab wasn?t really appreciated by many but frankly speaking I not only liked the movie but also Antra?s acting in that. (I?m sure to see many anti-Gayab comments). But all in all I feel she is a very talented actress who has got all the attributes to be the no1. My best wishes are with her!
2. Amrita Rao
Movie offers started submerging in for this Chitrapur Saraswat Brahim girl after she became popular from her Cadbury Perk Karva Chauth Ad and then the Bru Coffee Ad. Her major films so far have been Ishq Vishk, Masti, Main Hoon Na and Deewar (she has got appreciation in each of those flicks). NIFDgave Amrita the award of Fashion Icon Of The Yearat Chandigarh. This award went to Manish Malhotra last time. As a person she is very homely. Dislikes loud music and loves to eat coconut curry with rice. Became very popular among guys and a source of envy for girls & actresses for her amazingly attractive waistline (which is not only slim but also has gorgeous curves)! I can?t think of anything, which can stop this maiden from reaching the top!
1. Rani Mukherjee
This was the toughest one to choose! Who is ruling the roost right now? There was a neck cutting competition among many talented actresses like Aishwarya, Sushmita, Kareena, Bipasha and many others but eventually it was Rani Mukherjee who came out victorious! Have to give a special mention to Preity Zintawho really gave Rani a very tough competition but in the end it was the charm and grace of this ?Queen? which took her through!
Born on 21st March 1978 this Piscean girl entered the Bollywood with a disaster at the box office ? Raja Ki Aayegi Baarat. Then after being in dark for sometime she made a great comeback with Ghulam. In her very next movie Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, she proved that she can act with stars like Kajol and Shahrukh with being over-shadowed by them! After that she has given innumerable films and her acting has been recognized in each of them! I loved her in Saathiya, Chalte Chalte, Hum Tum and even Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham! Her husky voice adds to her charisma! One of the very few actresses who have the guts to give smooch scenes if the script demands it (Hey Raam and Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat)! But doesn?t expose just for the heck of it (like many actresses of today)! She has more faith in her acting talent and rightly so too (after all she is the cousin of Kajol, genetic factors do play a part)!
So the verdict is that Rani get the award for the best actress, but she has to be careful and make the right moves, as the four behind her are pretty gifted too! Applause everyone !!!!!
