With tonnes of prejudice...

I am writing this review as someone asked me to write one on 'Top 5' after having a blast with 'Worst 5'. Now I was in a tight spot. It is one thing to write funny stuff about things you like or dislike & a different ball game to write serious stuff. Me.... writing about Bollywood actresses when most Bollywood movies I watch are typical Vada-Paav type spicy movies.

The only way I know the movie is bad is when I sleep off half-way through or have this deja vu feeling of having seen it somewhere before (''Aapko kahin phele dekha hai'') :(

I did M2M to a couple of guys (they know who...) to send me a list of good movies so that I can re-educate myself on the

intricacies of feminine acting capabilities. But to no avail. Having been abandoned by the people I trusted the most... well started a lonely journey down the memory lane... like Bilbo Baggins... in the middle of the night :(

Kajol

Given my personal problems with Ms. Ekta Kapoor (personal as I am often forced to watch her masterpieces) she is one of the few starting with 'K' things I like.

She was a fresh face with nice acting in ''Yeh Dillagi''. She was better than Akshay & Saif put together. She was really good in ''Gupt'' especially in the climax (winning her the best villain award). ''Dushman'' would have been Kajol film if not for Ashutosh Rana (can't blame her for his better acting). Good acting in DDLJ (Dilwale Dulahaniya Le Jayenge). So So in K2H2 (Kuch Kuch Hota Hai).

Now who says Indian men are suckers for white/pale skin?. Here is the dusky queen who ruled the viewers hearts & the silver screen for some time before her marriage to my fav. actor Ajay Devgan.

Madhuri Dixit

May be this lady should have said Na-Na (No) when Dr. Nene (her hubby) proposed her. When she reigned supreme she was getting more per film than her ''poorer'' masculine co-stars. A heroine (actually the real hero of her films) who could carry a film like ''Raja'' (some call it ''Rani'') with a dork like Sanjay Kapoor prancing around like a cat with tail on fire, making an apologetic attempt to match steps with this dance queen.

She really set the viewers imaginations afire without showing anything with her ''Kuckckooo...xxxx CENSORED BY MS xxxxxxxxx'' song in ''Kalnayak''. Better than some heroines who make lewd suggestions at the viewer by their facial expressions, winks, lips etc. all for what? Just to carry the films which they know for sure are going to sink.

Her other memorable (given my limited nueron count) are ''Beti'' Oops Beta, ''Dil'', ''Tejaab'', ''Parinda'' etc. etc. (Warned you about my memory before hand :( )

Rani Mukherjee

I became her ''Ghulaam'' after watching her debut film of the same name. Now which Maayi ke Laal (mothers son) would not have wished to visit that beautiful hill station ''Khandaala'' with this ''Bong'' beauty.Good acting too...OMG... why am I so obsessed with Bong babes... Kajol, Rani & now Bipasha... if she could just act she would be at the top (given my jaundiced view :( )

Her cameo in K2H2 was brief but nearly over-shadowed real life cousin Kajol. Kajol must have let out a sigh of relief after Rani died... in the movie. Her acting in ''Hey Ram'' was good. She actually put on weight to do that role (or got the role for her weight???), now which actress or for that matter any girl would do that? When I came out of this film I was thinking more about her than Mr. Hassan (for all the wrong reasons :( )

Karishma Kapoor

Never thought I could get over my hate anything ''K'' & Kapoor (as explained earlier) until I saw a couple of her recent movies like ''Fizaa'', ''Zubeida'' etc. on telly (never dared to watch them in the theater for the fear of the directors who are famous for churning out ''art'' films).Good performance.

True she didn't care when my granny died (''Teri Naani Mari tho main kya karoon...?''), but couldn't help caring about the improvements in her acting. After wasting all those years dancing around fountains, dhaabas, bus stands etc (given the Mr. Dhawans budgetary constraints) all over Mumbai (never knew ''Amchi'' city had so many of them) with ''Chi..Chi..Chi...'' Govinda swaggering around like a Coolie waiting outside an occupied restroom.

Keep it up KK babe and please... please advice the younger KK you-know-who to fall in line.

Tabu

Acting came as a ''Virasat''(inheritance) to this Hyderabadi ''Haon'' mulgi (running out of Angrezi/English equivalents for babe...) from her aunty Shabaana & sister ''daring'' Farah.

Though she wasted a couple of years on never to be released ''Prem'' (no offence premjith) for debut which anyway flopped before I could read the title. She did show her mettle with films like ''Virasat''(village belle), ''Chandni Bar''(club dancer), ''Filhaal''(infertile wife), ''Astitva'' (adultrous wife) etc.

Still searching for that Bar where she was working... (in Chandni Bar). If you do know it please M2M me ;)

Ending notes...

Wake up, the review is about to end :)

Well, almost. Why not Madhu Bala, Nargis et. al. Come on, they were my Moms & Gannys favs. not mine. I have a very

contemporary out-look (well almost). Smitha Patil, Shabana... once I watched one of these actresses on DD1 (only channel then) in an art film. The only thing I learnt was how to cut a live chicken (is it an art?). Never had patience to watch the film where actors think 10 times before speaking wasting film & my time.

You all iconoclasts out there. What are you waiting for? Start assailing my highly pre-conceived views Goda hai.. (Write Comments)... Maidaan hai... (Comments section)... Banda ( 'r' deleted ) ( ME....) bhi hai..

with love & lots of prejudice,

Vivek
