Well, nice so after writing many reviews on men, now I can rave about my fav topic---ladies. Well pretty evidently, Bollywood, at least according to me, has a selected group of actresses who can ACT. Yes, folks, a short five-lady list produced by yours truly---Captain Charisma! So keep your eyes on this elite list. And hey, by the way, remember, my fav hot chicks like Koena Mitra, Celina Jaitley, Riya Sen, and Neha Dhupia don't get a spot here coz we are talking about ACTRESSES that can ACT.
Again, I'll try being as brief and precise as possible!
NUMBER 5----------AMRITA RAO/AYESHA TAKIA---Yes people we have a tie. And all sorts of tie-breakers were tried by yours truly but I admit I failed in all. Both these talented actresses from the latest generation have the same pros---unique and simple looks, distinct and likeable voices, camera-friendly persona, and an ultra-cool attitude to go with it. With all these pros, both these actresses emote like they are seasoned performers even while being new girls on the block. I just can't stop admiring their acting talents. They are no item-girl materials, yet they have their share of attraction that lies in their commendable talent. Greatest performance of AMRITA RAO is Ishq Vishk while AYESHA TAKIA does it all the best in the recently released Socha Na Tha!
NUMBER 4----------PRIYANKA CHOPRA---Another contemporary of Ayesha and Amrita. Although Priyanka has done better in roles with grey shades (Andaaz, Aitraaz, Yakeen), her versatility is still undoubted with success in other roles too like Waqt and Mujhse Shaadi Karogi. Priyanka just keeps on mesmerizing the viewer. She can play the girl-next door or the real hot deal, both with amazing ease and that's the best part about her. Her talents are unending. Her dancing skills add variety to her performances and add to it she's also capable of singing well. Overall, Priyanka is a treat of a performer and a true all rounder. Probably I can predict her to be a strong candidate for Bollywood's future TOP spot for the actress category!
NUMBER 3----------AISHWARYA RAI--------People before you start doubting me, let me assure you that Aishwarya CAN act. And she does it better than Preity Zinta, Karisma Kapoor, and Kajol in my opinion. Aishwarya, in her debut movie Aur Pyar Ho Gaya was merely a beauty queen with only dancing skills. Her acting desired a lot of improvement and the movie, along with her took some heavy criticism. Yet Aishwarya's come back is one OF THE BEST. Movie like Taal, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, and then Devdas with prolific film makers like Subhash Ghai and Sanjay Leela Bhansali clearly demonstrate the lady's quick rise to fame. Her performance was authentic and rocking in each of these movies and she deserved to become a fan fav. Although she did a special appearance in Chopra camp's Mohabbatein, and also did a sincere job, one is still to see her in a full fledge role with the camp. Add to it the fact that she's never been a major part of the Johar camp either. This certainly proves that despite Aish's lower form off late (duds like Kyun Ho Gaya Na), she is doing good movies like Raincoat, Bride and Prejudice, and Khakee to remain in contention for these bigger camps. With Hollywood also on the agenda, a lot of Aish's talent still remains to be explored. Yet considering how quickly she has overpowered her counterparts, her acting abilities are, to me as an objective person, unquestionable!
NUMBER 2----------RANI MUKHERJEE---------Rani too overpowers her counterparts, including the likes of Preity and Kareena, and takes the number 2 spot. There is no doubt over the fact that she is the current reigning queen of Bollywood! She has stolen the hearts of many. And considering that there is no solid failure in her movie career for a while (CHALTE CHALTE, HUM TUM, VEER ZAARA, BLACK, BUNTY AUR BABLI), she is surely becoming unstoppable by the day. And it's only because despite not having the looks of a beauty queen, Rani has her attraction lying in her charismatic performances. She surely delivers everytime it is asked of her and her fans are hardly disappointed with her performances in all her movies. Good going Rani, surely she has replaced Kajol (who was undeserving for the most part since she only knew how to cry) for the number 1 spot!
NUMBER 1-----------URMILA MATONDKAR----Yes people, Urmila is an A-C-T-R-E-S-S! This lady hasn't had her share of luck in Bollywood to completely be a winner. Always her abilities, like those of the talented Tabu (who didn't make it here coz of lack of space) went unnoticed by a particular section for various reasons. Firstly, she never became shy to try different roles. Right from Rangeela to Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya to Deewangee to Bhoot to Ek Haseena Thi, the lady has kept on receiving praise from the critics but her universal acclaim is mostly denied for doing such offbeat roles. Her detractors say that she cannot to candyfloss roles...well I think she did it in the initial phase of her career and wasn't a major success. But rather than following the way of girls like Sameera Reddy who expose after failure, Urmila exposed only her acting skills. And those in a variety of offbeat roles. The fact that she hasn't worked with the Chopras and Johars questions her popularity according to her directors. But to objective, critical people like me, I think that she is pure substance, and thus, at least in THIS REVIEW, she deserves the top spot since this is no POPULARITY CONTEST. Thumbs up Urmila, keep them coming!
