The role models . Review on Five Best Actresses of Hindi Movies

It is unfortunate that many people will not agree with me when I say that the actresses I am about to name are role models. Actually, many of the fine actresses and actors do not have as much popularity as the other pin-ups. The actresses I am going to name are my favourite actresses of all times.

1- Topping the list is my favourite actress Shabana Azmi.

She is one of those very few actresses who have dared to take up subjects which had been considered despicable by the society. Her movies like Arth and Ankur are gems. She is one of the fine actresses that Bollywood has produced. Her recent films like The Fire and The Godmother made a lot of news for all the wrong reasons. Godmother is one of my favourite movies. It is a beautifully and honestly picturised movie. But it is Shabana and her enigmatic presence which has made the movie incredible. As far as The Fire is considered, it is a very bold movie and we need actresses of the calibre of Shabana who can take up such roles.

2- Smita Patil

An actress of the same time as Shabana, and they are found together in many of the movies. She is another actress with not many commercial movies to her credit. All the movies that Shabana and Smita acted in, bounced at the box office. They were not recognised as one of the stars of Bollywood. But, thanks to today’s generation, people have begun to recognise the non-commercial movies and its stars. And that is one of the reason why low budget movies and on-commercial ones like Daman, Astitva, Chandni bar, etc.. are making money. Speaking of bold actresses, Bipasha Basu springs up in my mind. Although she can never be compared with the likes of Shabana and Tabu, she is one of those very few actresses who have dared to take up subjects like Jism.

3- Tabu-

The only actress, probably, to have earned fame in both the commercial and non-commercial movies. I prefer to watch her in the movies like Maachis, Astitva, Chandni bar, etc.. She is not an acclaimed beauty but it is her metaphor character which sets her apart from the rest of the actresses. The National Awards for her performance in the movies Maachis and Chandni bar prove what an amazing actress she is. Apparently, Shabana Azmi happens to be her aunt. May be the talent is in her blood.

4- Nandita Das-

Watch her Marathi and Bengali movies and you will be surprised at her versatility. She has done very few movies in Hindi. Her movies being, The Fire, The Earth, Rockford, Bas yunhi. Bas yunhi is romantic comedy where Purab Kohli plays her opposite and The Earth is a classic movie set in the backdrop of the Partition. She is an incredible actress with a fine blend of beauty and talent.

5- Rekha-

She is an enigma. She is the Diva of the Indian Film Industry. One of the top actresses of her times known for her versatility in movies. She has acting in dozens of movies which are all ahead of her time. She is one actress who is popular and beautiful, yet an amazing actress. I love her in the movie Umarao Jaan. She has acted in many languages and has many box office hits to her credit. Even today, people admire her and her beauty. Bollywood is in need of actresses like Rekha.

The other actresses who have made into this category are Jaya Bhaduri, Nargis, Madhuri Dixit, Waheeda Rahman, etc. Well, the so-called actresses of these days need to pick a leaf from the lives of these fine actresses.
