Countdowns always excite me...they just let my adrenaline pumping so fast.....who’ll be the no.1, who’ll be no.2....Oh God!! I haven’t started this review yet I am so excited....All right I’ll settle down....I am just writing about my top 3 faves...rest of the two just couldn't fit in....sad but true!!! IF YOU WANNA READ ABOUT ACTRESSES FROM 4-10, GO TO COMMENTS....SORRY BUT THAT WAS THE ONLY OPTION LEFT

5. Manisha Koirala: Controversial but natural

4. Karisma Kapoor: The hard-working lass

3. Kajol: Spontaneity Unlimited

Synopsis: I loved Kajol in the very first film I saw of hers way back in 1992—Bekhudi. There was no denying the fact then that a star had born. Kajol started to enthral the audiences with fabulous performances from the second year itself. You wouldn’t call her exactly beautiful, in fact she looked even darker than her male co-stars, couldn’t dance well and didn’t have an hour-glass figure ever, but her histrionics over-shadowed everything. Natural-to-the core this actress has always been, Kajol evolved into a complete actress and has bid adieu to the Bollywood for some time now. Strange it may sound, but Kajol never did an ‘art’ film in her 10 year-long career. She was married to her long-time fiancée and co-star Ajay Devgan in 1999 and is soon to become a mum...we wish her best of luck!!!!! As of now, let’s look at her track record now.

Kajol was, as I said, on a super-hit spree from her second year in Bollywood itself..1994 had her in two wonderful roles in Yeh Dillagi and Karan Arjun. 1995 saw her in the Yash Chopra blockbuster ‘DDLJ’ and rocketed her to the top-slot. Then came a few of her forgettable films until ‘Gupt’ came along in 1997 giving her the best villain award for the year. She followed it up with 3 back-to-back hits in 1998 and a memorable performance in Dushman, although the film was unsuccessful. 1999 saw her with Anil Kapoor in ‘Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte hain’ after which she gave us so-so films till K3G came along....

Kajol was

Unforgettable in: Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Dushman, Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha and Gupt.

V.Good in: Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Baazigar, Kuch Khatti Kuch Meethi, Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain, Yeh Dillagi, Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya and Udhaar Ki Zindagi

Watchable in: Bekhudi, Hameshaa, Karan Arjun and Raju Chacha

Bad in: Taaqat, Hote Hote Pyaar Ho Gaya and some of her earlier films.

Looks best with: Shahrukh Khan (who else!!!)

Look out for her in: Karan Johar’s next.

2. Tabu: The thinking man’s choice

Synopsis: I remember the first time I saw her on screen and went mad over her eyes...they were one of the most serious I had ever seen. Tabu had one thing in common with Kajol....she strived on just her powerful performances, but what made her secure a place better than Kajol was the unusual route she took in her career. Her career hasn’t been full with commercial successes and she has always been sidelined at the award functions by being presented with the critics’ awards, but what she has given the audiences are some of the most cherished performances in the recent years. What stuns me about her is the way she has explored her acting abilities and worked in films and with directors who have churned out the best from her. Hats Off to her!!!

Tabu started off in 1994 with inconsequential films like ‘Pehla Pehla Pyaar’ and ‘Prem’, but her first commercial hit in 1994, ‘Vijaypath’ gave her the title of ‘Ruk Ruk girl’ thanks to a foot-tapping number...then came 1995 in which she stunned every critic in the country with a wonderful performance in Gulzar’s ‘Maachis’. 1997 had her in a very cute village belle role in ‘Virasat’. 1999 had her again in a wonderful role of a politician’s daughter in ‘Hu Tu Tu’ and 2000 had her in an author-backed role of a wife in search of her identity. Tabu also played two wonderful cameos in 1999—‘Biwi no.1’(she was simply hilarious) and ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’ ( again fabulous!!), and who can forget her in 2001’s ‘Chandni Bar’!!

Tabu was

Unforgettable in: Maachis, Virasat, Hu Tu Tu, Astitva and Chandni Bar

V.Good in: Biwi no.1, Hum Saath Saath Hain, Border, Chachi 420, Filhaal

Watchable in: Saajan Chale Sasuraal, Pehla Pehla Pyaar,

Bad in: Prem, Aamdani atthani Kharcha Rupaiya, 2001

Looks best with: Anil Kapoor (according to me)

1. MADHURI DIXIT: The last empress

Synopsis: At last, I’ve come to the actress I wanted to talk about the most...well if you know Bollywood, you know Madhuri Dixit obviously. Madhuri is entering her second decade in the industry (she started off in 1984). She is absolutely fantastic and nobody can beat her excellent track-record. What sets her apart from the other actresses is the sheer completeness she comes gifted with...she’s got one of the most perfect Indian faces, she’s one of the best dancers and her acting has inspired many actresses of today to enter the industry....she’s set examples and benchmarks be it by her powerhouse performances, fabulous dances, screen presence, enigma or her down-to-earth off-screen image. Painstaking hard-work coupled with superb career-planning had won her the top spot years ago. Now she just rules over millions of hearts world-wide..hapilly married to Dr Sriram Nene in the US and now soon to becoming a mum...Madhuri presents a picture of a perfect woman..no doubt she’s already counted as one of the living legends...So if India Today calls her ‘Female Amitabh Bacchan’ or HindustanTimes quotes her ‘Queen Bee’, it doesen’t surprise us, or does it!!!!

Madhuri started her career with a string of forgettable films ranging from Abodh to Izzatdaar until 1988 came and N.Chandra had her tagged as the ’Ek do teen’ girl in Tezaab. 1989 saw her in ‘Ram Lakhan’ and ‘Sailaab’ while 1990 gave her first Filmfare Award for Best Actress for ’Dil’. She continued her super-hit spree with Saajan, Beta, Khalnayak in the early 90s till 1994 when she gave a fabulous performance in ‘Anjaam’ and became a household name with ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun’. 1995 saw her carrying two mediocre films solely on her star-status—‘Raja’ and Yaarana, while 1996 was a bad year with two duds. In 1997, she again struck gold with ‘Mrityudand’ and ‘Dil to Pagal Hai’ and then went into a hibernation till early 2000 when she gave her career-best performance in ‘Pukar’ and followed it up with equally mesmerising performances in 2001’s Lajja and 2002’s magnum opus ‘Devdas’. Hope we see more of her in the future...

Madhuri was

Unforgettable in: Dil To Pagal Hai, Hum Aapke Hain Koun, Pukar, Lajja, Devdas, Beta and Mrityudand

V.Good in: Raja, Anjaam, Dil, Tezaab, Saajan, Kishen Kanhaiya, Jamai Raja, Yeh Raaste Hain Pyaar Ke, Sangeet

Watchable in: Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (s.a.), Wajood, Khel, Rajkumar, Prem Granth, Zindagi ek Juaa, Rajkumar, Gaja Gamini

Bad in: Mohabbat, Aarzoo, Hum Tumhaare Hain Sanam and Koyla

Looks best with: Anil Kapoor and Shahrukh Khan

Watch her out in: Yash Chopra’s next with Amitabh Bachchan
