Contrary to my last review, this one deals with THE 5 BEST ACTORS of indian cinema! Read on to feel lucky and proud, that we have them in our industry!
(1) MEHMOOD:
Do I even need to mention why this BAAP of all actors is my favourite? Hah! Well, he started out as a junior dancer, and then went on to become the only comic sensation of the indian film industry! How can we ever forget his masterpieces BHOOT BUNGLA(with my pancham!), BOMBAY TO GOA, PADOSAN, PYAR KIYE JAA, PARWARISH(the old one 1958), PYAASA....i can go on and on!
The hemisphere of hilarity...didnt have any parameters though! He has done his share of emotional stuff...be it KUNWARA BAAP or LAKHON MEIN EK!
I am actually running out of words, I mean, who am I to review this man....or all the other men I have mentioned henceforth!
(2) AMITABH BACCHAN:
Some of you out there probabely wont agree with me on this...(to all diehard fans like me: yeah there do exist people who actually dont like him!) but, amitji has been rated as the 5th best actors in the world!
From his sense of timing in comedy to his bigshot action sequences... from emotional scenes and subtle romance to awfully loud slapsticks....he has excelled in them all!
Be it a pale script with no future, or the most path-breaking film....the movie was bound to be a hit in Big B's genre! Seriosly, he has made some real bad movies work, be it NASTIK or MAHAAN! And bad movies meaning...absolute CRASS! No sense of editing, cinematography, choreography...or anything slick! MAHAAN still had RD burman's music...lemme point that out!
But all this didnt come too easily to him...before that, there was a herculean amount of struggle! That 'tall, gawky guy with a wierd hairdo' from Allahabad, found no takers in AKASHWANI (yeah, he had first applied to be an RJ)...or in any film for that matter!
It took 7 flops to render him into his 'angry young man' avtaar throughout the 70's and early 80's, after the biggies ZANJEER and NAMAK HARAM happened! And that was it! The rest as they say was history!
Nonetheless, he has sufferd from serious downs in his career. Be it his sudden unpopularity as a 'flop actor' OR his failing ABCL.
But then KBC happened as another milestone to his success! His emergence as a stronger and subtler actor in BAGHBAN, KHAKEE, DEV, etc have just proved a point! This man's still going strong...
All I have to say is that, there was NEVER anyone like him...neither will there EVER be!
(3) AMOL PALEKAR:
Another actor with immense versatality, ladies and gentlemen, presenting....AMOL PALEKAR saab!
His name has always been synonimised with high leveled comedy, be it GOLMAL, CHOTI SI BAAT and RAJNIGANDHA...or SAFED JHOOTH and JHOOTHI! His romantic boy-next-door dimension has also been explored with CHITCHOR, BATON BATON MAIN and GHARONDA...again on more of a comic light. But just experience his darker shades in KHAMOSH as himself...and you'll know what I am talking about! Man....just experience the chill run down your spine, and then comment!
Some of his self directed films like ANAAHAT and KAIREE(he has even penned it himself...talk about talent!) have been positively accalimed too!
Again, an actor of class....and a tremendous favorite....i never miss his movies....and I guess, no one should!
(4) PARESH RAWAL:
Aaah... here's the newage bad man/simpleton comedian...who so much reminds me of a malgudi days' charecter! Have you seen him in that recent pizza ad? Isnt he just too good.... even if it lasts only for 60 seconds!
But then again.... lets talk about the sequences where he occurs for more than 60 seconds! ;-P
Say....HERA PHERI! Now this was one blockbuster! Just the kind of movie you can sit through safely with your family, every day of the week, and still get the laughs! Almost single handedly, paresh has carried the movie forward, though I must say, the others have done an equally excellent job! Even sunil shetty...can u believe it? Sangati ka asar, u see!
Same goes for ANDAAZ APNA APNA, where he plays twins...a serious white and a hilarious black....with equal ease! Now thats paresh rawal for you!
His comedies CHACHI 420, HASEENA MAAN JAYEGI, AWARA PAGAL DEEWANA, BADE MIYAN CHOTE MIYAN, HUNGAMA,JUDAI (remember the ? on his forehead:-D).....etc have been equally acclaimed as his black and greay charectered movies....like.... DAULAT KI JUNG, MOHRA (half comic), PARAMPARA, BAAZI etc!
TAMANNA and BAGHBAN have proved....is there any need though...that this man sure can rock the nation!
(5) AAMIR KHAN:
I was only 7 when I had seen JO JETA WOHI SIKANDER, and since then my DIL CHAHTA HAI, only aamir khan! My MANN and DIL go bonkers whenever I get a glimpse SARFAROSH, so guys, it can only be LOVE LOVE LOVE! I can travel QAYAMAT SE QAYAYMAT TAK, just to be his GHULAM....without any salary...or any LAGAAN!
Ha ha! Ok, ok...i know that was pretty bakwaas, but what can I say...i am crazy about this man! And what a man...he might be short...but the amount of intensity and dedication this man has is so amazing!
A perfectionist by nature, this man is never too tired of retaking for any scene! He has no qualms of giving us flops like MELA once in a while, for he's so sure of his calibre of giving us a SARFAROSH, GHULAM, DCH or 1947 earth, anyday! Thats him!
Remember his carefree and bindaas self in RANGEELA and RAJA HINDUSTANI? WOWs, werent they?
Then came the responsible father and heartbroken divorcee in AKELE HUM AKELE TUM....and of course the naughty and nice raja in ISHQ! If you have seen all the mentioned movies(and these are the commonest of AK's films)..then you know his stature already!
The best thing about this man is that he experiments a lot...and gets very in sync with the charecters he plays! Be it an unserious akash in DIL CHAHTA HAI, a patriotic bhuvan in LAGAAN ,passionate ACP in SARFAROSH, or a cassanova turned lover in MANN!
Do I need to say anymore!
BESIDES THEM, I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO MENTION SOME OTHERS WHO I FEEL ARE AS PHENOMENAL AS THE ONES LISTED!
SANJEEV KUMAR who has been one of the most underrated actors from the yesteryear. His PARICHAY, SHOLAY, TUMHARE LIYE, BIWI O BIWI, ANDHERA, etc have been some of the finest movies in bollywood's history.
he same goes for AJAY DEVGAN one of the most seasoned actors of our generation! The man who started ot with a ridiculous PHOOL AUR KAANTE, has definitely come of age with YUVA and RAINCOAT. Yuva is one movie that happens to be among the top 10 in my faves!
Should I mention versatality again?
- NAGESH KUKUNOOR, RAHUL BOSE and ASHUTOSH RANA follow suit.
PLUS, I MUST ALSO MENTION SOME OF THE YOUNG, VERY ENERGETIC AND PROMISING ACTORS WHO HAVE EITHER ALREADY STARTED SHINING, OR WILL DO SO IN NEAR FUTURE!
- ABHISHEKH BACCHAN amd HRITHIK ROSHAN have had similar career problems. They were never bad actors. The scripts had repeatedly failed them. Abhishekh was a bit stiff initially, but now he's absolutely mind blowing! YUVA and PHIR MILENGE were definitely his films!
About hrithik, he did have a great debut, but then kinda waivered. Now, he's back again with some power-packed performances in KOI MIL GAYA and LAKSHYA!
And even if you feel they are still not upto the mark, then give them a break yaar! They are still learning!
SHAHID KAPOOR, snicker if you have to, but FIDA proved quite a point! Look, me no forecaster, but then again, he definitely has promise. All you dudes who think he copies SRK, well you are in for some disappointment, coz he definitely has a style of his own! As far as looks are concerned, shahid does look like a young sharukh. You know, hairstyle and all!
VIVEK OBEROI again displays a lot of talent!
