To choose the five best Hindi film actors so far was really tough for me, with lots of '' whom should i'' I finally rate the following as top five

Guru Dutt:

Guru Dutt Padukone was born in Mysore in South India on July 9, 1925. He joined Prabhat Studios where he got a break as a choreographer with the film Hum ek Hain (1946) His close friend from Prabhat, Dev Anand , invited him to direct a film for him thus keeping his share of the promise. 1951 saw the release of Baazi Guru Dutt's directorial debut. The film starring Dev Anand, Geeta Bali and Kalpana Kartik was a trend setter regarded as the forerunner of the spate of urban crime films that followed in Bollywood in the 1950s. Its songs, sung mainly by well known playback singer of the times Geeta Roy, were runaway hits. In fact Guru Dutt and Geeta Roy met during the song recording of Baazi and fell in love marrying on the 26th of May,1953. Baaz in1953 saw Guru Dutt make his debut as leading man and he went on to act as well as direct.

Aar Paar released in 1954 established Guru Dutt as a director to reckon with. Followed some of his best work Mr. and Mrs 55, ''Pyaasa and Kaagaz ke Phool'' but the last mentioned was a dismal failure at the box office and a dejected Guru Dutt never directed a film again. He continued to produce films and act in both home and outside productions. But never did he ever give his name in the credits as director again. ''Sahib Bibi aur Ghulam'' though credited to writer Abrar Alvi bears his unmistakable stamp. The film won the President's silver medal as well as the film of the year award from the Bengal Film Journalists Association. However Guru Dutt's personal life was a shambles. He had separated from his wife allegedly due to his involvement with his discovery and leading actress Waheeda Rehman and on Oct. 10, 1964 he took an overdose of sleeping pills and committed suicide though doubts linger as to whether his death was accidental. Indian cinema had lost one of its greats. At the time of his death Guru Dutt was starring in Love and God and in Baharein Phir Bhi Aayengi, a home production. Both the films were ultimately completed by different actors, Sanjeev Kumar and Dharmendra respectively.

Wife: Geeta Dutt

Dilip Kumar:

Born in Peshawar as Yusuf Khan, Dilip Kumar was initiated into the world of arc lights and grease paint by the prime actress of his times, Devika Rani. After his debut in Jwar Bhata in 1944, he played a variety of characters over the span of six decades; but nostalgiaphiles venerated him as the monarch of tragedy. With Raj Kapoor and Dev Anand, he formed that star trinity of the 1950s backed with the success of motion pictures such as Andaz, Aan, Daag, Madhumati, Ganga Jamuna and Ram Aur Shyam. His performances in dramas Deedar and Devdas are often regarded as the epitome of emoting.

Slender in physique once, this proud recipient of Dada Saheb Phalke award, is inevitably filled-out. But the charisma lingers, the eyes have the same inquiring gaze, the voice has a cultured, mellow timbre. You cannot expect the same doomed romantic hero of yore, the smile that was always under the shadow of tragedy. His switch to comedy gave a new class to tomfoolery.

Wife: Saira Banu

Amitabh Bachchan:

Amitabh Bachchan is the king of Indian cinema, most certainly of the commercial Hindi film.

His first appearance was in the movie Saat Hindustani [Seven Indians], which did not do particularly well at the box office. Nonetheless, Amitabh was undeterred, and he can be said to have arrived in the Hindi film world with the films Zanjeer and Deewar.

With his tall and lean looks, Amitabh became emblematic of the new kind of action hero. Whereas his predecessors such as Rajesh Khanna and Dharmendra played romantic roles, Amitabh introduced the motif of the 'angry young man' to Indian cinema. During the shooting of the movie Coolie, he injured himself fatally and had a near brush with death.

The Miss Universe spectacle however landed him in troubled waters. He found himself in debt-trap. His media company ABCL was in doldrums. Troubles with finances notwithstanding Amitabh has silenced all his critics with the immense acclaim he has received in his new avataar (incarnation) on the small-screen in the desi (local) version of popular ''Who wants to be a Billionaire''. The charm of his persona that makes people bedazzled; proven by the fact that even unparalleled prize money and popular stars on many rival channels failed to match 'Kaun Banega Crorepati's' success.'

Wife: Mrs Jaya Bachchan

Children: Abhishek and Shweta Bachchan

Anil Kapoor:

Anil Kapoor born on Dec 24th 1959, started his film career with ''Shaitan'' with Shatrughan Sinha, then acted in a Kannada movie '' Pallavi anu Pallavi'' which did good business in karnataka.

As an actor, Anil has over the past twenty years carved a niche for himself as one of India’s finest.

His innings, began in the late 70s with films like Shakti, Humhare Tumhare and Hum Paanch and reached a new high with Woh Saat Din where he played the good-hearted struggling singer.

His underdog act in Yash Chopra’s Mashaal, Rajiv Rai’s Yudh, Feroz Khan’s Jaanbaaz and Sahib; his perfect comic timing in Chameli Ki Shaadi, Subhash Ghai’s Karma and Ram Lakhan; and his intense angry young man persona in Ghai’s Meri Jung, N Chandra’s Tezaab, Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s Parinda proved the man’s amazing versatility.

Awards, acclaim were fittingly bestowed. But unlike other film heroes who became victims of their self-created images, Anil constantly chose to experiment with new roles like the ones in Eeshwar or Lamhe.

All this while he continued with mainstream masala potboilers -- Laadla, Beta, Loafer, Gharwali Baharwali, Biwi No 1, Virasat, Taal, Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai, Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain and Mann.

Pukar (which earned him the National Award) and the recently released Nayak and Lajja assert his fortitude as a performer.

Wife: Sunita

Children:Sonam, Rhea & Harshavardhan

Aamir Khan:

Punctual, unpretentious and friendly yes Aamir is the man of all times. He doesn't have a muscular body or a superstar status But he is the only man whose presence in a film gurantees a hit.He has achieved this position Through his hard work and scintillating performance in a number of movies.Whether his film is a hit or flop, Aamir has always stood head and shoulders above the rest. One could see his sterling performance in 'Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak'''Jo Jeeta wohi Sikandar'' ''Mann'' and many more . 'Andaz Apna Apna', ''Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke'' proved his excellent sense of timing at comedy while 'Ghulam' and 'Baazi' indicated that he can do action movies too.He has proved himself as a good singer by his song 'Aati kya khandala',yes he is the most versatile actor of the present generation.

Born on 14th March 1965, this actor/producer has made India proud by getting his film ''Lagaan'' ( One of the best movie I ever watched) nominated for the Oscars.

Wife: Reena

Children: Junaid + one more ( I dont know the name)

I felt that the above 5 are better than the others so have rated them as the top ones
